ANSYS announced today that Fujitsu Limited is using its power noise and reliability solutions to create three-dimensional integrated circuits to meet performance requirements for next-generation high-performance central processing units. These chips leverage three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D-IC) architecture to gain power, performance and price advantages, but the configuration increases the design complexity and the challenges associated with power and thermal management. ANSYS®RedHawk™ and ANSYS®Sentinel™ provide Fujitsu with the ability to perform IR (voltage) drop, electromigration (EM) and thermal reliability analysis of its large processor designs by delivering full-chip capacity, fast turnaround time and production-proven sign-off accuracy. Finding the optimal floor plan for 3D-IC requires placement of through-silicon-via (TSV), as well as the power/ground network. This added complexity necessitates early-stage floor planning, analysis and debugging, as power and thermal issues become difficult to resolve later in the design process. Using RedHawk, Fujitsu can explore various TSV placement options to meet chips' power noise and reliability

CIMdata consults with many end-user clients on their PLM and simulation strategies which, of course, turn out to be all about data management and process. In spite of clients having spent millions of dollars on solutions, it is incredible that when we bore down with the question about "How does collaboration and data sharing really happen?" the clients invariably get this sheepish look, stare down at their shoes, and mumble "shared drive." It is amazing how much organizations rely on local network shared drives, and how out of control they are.  I am reminded of "The Tragedy of the Commons," which is about how shared resources can be exploited and destroyed for perceived individual benefit at the expense of the common good1. I am surprised that there seems to be no available solution to what I call "The Shared Drive Problem." A decade ago (at GM) I wrote my requirements for a Simulation

Delcam has added a new ‘putty’ tool to the 2015 release of its ArtCAM Pro CADCAM software for artistic applications, allowing even more complex 3D shapes to be created with the program.  In addition, many of the modelling options, including the new tool, now show the results of changes in real time. Unlike most other CADCAM systems, ArtCAM Pro is aimed at skilled artisans rather than engineers and requires little knowledge of engineering or computing.  It has been particularly successful in the signmaking, woodworking and engraving industries.  In these areas and in other artistic applications, ArtCAM Pro allows users to increase productivity, improve quality and deliver new designs more quickly, by combining their craft skills and creativity with the power and precision of computer-aided manufacturing. The main development for ArtCAM Pro 2015 is the new putty tool for modelling.  This allows models to be edited by picking an area to be moved,
