Delcam will preview a new rib-machining module for its PowerMILL CAM system on stand H57 in Hall 8 at the Euromold exhibition to be held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 25th to 28th November.  The new module, which will be available as part of the PowerMILL 2015 R2 release scheduled for January 2015, will speed up and simplify the machining into tooling of cavities to form ribs. Reinforcing ribs are required in many types of plastic mouldings, from electrical housings to containers to furniture.  They are typically much deeper than they are wide, which poses special challenges when machining the cavities needed to form them.  In many cases, these challenges prompt companies to use EDM to form the features rather than machining. The new PowerMILL module makes it much easier and safer to program the machining of cavities for narrow ribs, even when the cutter’s length is much greater than its diameter.  Using a dedicated

Dassault Systèmes announced that it has reached a significant milestone in its project aimed at driving the creation and use of simulated 3D personalized hearts in the treatment and diagnosis of heart diseases and medical device development. Powered by Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform’s realistic simulation applications, The “Living Heart Project” announced in May of this year, has rapidly moved its first realistic 3D heart simulator into beta test, validated the efficacy of a device and has surpassed 30 contributing member organizations. As a key step of this initiative, Dassault Systèmes has signed a five-year collaborative research agreement with the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which will initially target the development of testing paradigms for the insertion, placement and performance of pacemaker leads and other cardiovascular devices used to treat heart disease. Using a technology crowdsourcing model that protects the intellectual property of each member, yet enables all to share the outcome, the “Living Heart Project”

IronCAD today announced a new seamlessly integrated Multi-Physics module. "Multi-Physics for IronCAD" (MPIC) is the newest generation of integrated CAD/FEA for general entry to advanced design simulations. MPIC focuses on ease of use and provides fully coupled Multiphysics with stress, thermal, and electrostatic analysis. Traditional FEA solutions are specialized for advanced users and are not particularly well suited for quick, in-process design analysis. With MPIC, users at any skill level will be able to use full FEA capabilities. Seamlessly integrated, users can simply add material, forces or constraints and the AutoSolve meshes and returns analysis results. Any modifications to the IRONCAD model enables an analysis re-solve in seconds As part of the IronCAD Gold Partner Program, a node-limited version of MPIC is included with full product capabilities with the standard IRONCAD solution. Beyond the included version, customers can purchase a full accuracy basic version, advance version, and add-on functionality. MPIC is available

Leading New Zealand hydrocarbons engineering company ITL has selected Intergraph® CADWorx® Plant Professional plant design software to deliver all new projects going forward. ITL made the switch to CADWorx Plant Professional from a competitor product after evaluating a range of plant design software packages against criteria that included cost-effectiveness, features and usability. "After an extensive evaluation exercise, one of the main deciding factors for us was that Intergraph has made considerable investments to advance CADWorx over the past few years, rather than just maintain it," said Garnett Henderson, ITL's design office manager. "We haven't seen that with many other vendors. "We also like the admin setup for CADWorx Plant Professional," Henderson added. "The majority of our jobs are relatively small, and CADWorx does not assume you want to link every document in a project together out of the box. You can get up and running quickly on small projects, and choose to add the integration
