The MEDC’s International Trade team organizes in-person and virtual trade missions and shows, as well as networking opportunities for international companies to communicate with Michigan companies and boost the value of Michigan exports. MEDC‘s International Trade managers recognize resources and make introductions to overcome obstacles and jumpstart a company’s momentum in a foreign market as businesses face barriers to international formation.
Expanding into India’s automotive and industrial machinery markets was critical for PROLIM‘s continued growth in assisting companies with product lifecycle management strategies. PROLIM was invited to participate in a trade mission to India with the MEDC’s International Trade Program, which was collaborating with Automation Alley of Troy. MEDC created a unique itinerary for each participant, focusing on meetings with potential clients and local market resources in PROLIM’s case. PROLIM was also awarded grants from the MI-STEP initiative to help defray the costs of attendance.
PROLIM met with more than ten companies in one week by traveling with MEDC and Automation Alley to evaluate potential market opportunities. Within three months of the trade trip, PROLIM got the first order at its new sales office. The business is projected to expand by $1 million in the first year and then by at least 30% annually after that. PROLIM’s sales in an international market like India help the company broaden its customer base while maintaining consistent growth and profitability, which supports Michigan employment.
