Polarion Software Partners with Siemens PLM Software to Accelerate Software-Driven Innovation

Today, Siemens PLM’s Pascal Vera and Polarion Software’s Stefano Rizzo are joining forces to co-present the second Keynote titled “PLM and ALM Getting Together” at the annual Polarion Live User Conference.

Pascal Vera, who is leading Systems Engineering and Mechatronics product initiatives and strategic planning at Siemens PLM, as well as heading Teamcenter Mechatronics product management efforts, is joined by Stefano Rizzo, who in his role as SVP Strategy and Business Development is responsible for the long-term vision and product strategy at Polarion.

Following last month’s announcement of Polarion’s partnership with Siemens PLM Software to integrate Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technology from Siemens with Polarion’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution, today’s presentation will detail the approach, benefits and roadmap of the integration.

The partnership was established in response to the highly competitive and complex environment of modern-day manufacturing where innovation is more and more relying on the software component of embedded systems. While opening up great new opportunities, such integration of software into mechatronics also presents unprecedented challenges.

For instance, previously siloed teams all of a sudden have to closely coordinate their development efforts in a dynamic ecosystem spanning the globe as different software and hardware components have to be seamlessly fused to ensure functional safety and compliance.

But most collaborators don’t have the unified tooling environment necessary to get them on the same page at the same time. Resulting disconnects show increasingly devastating impact, shaking industries with new records in product failures, recalls, legal sanctions, loss in market position and associated cost explosions.

Siemens and Polarion believe that this integration will succeed where others have failed for multiple reasons. For one, it is the first ever integration of software engineering data and processes with product development throughout the lifecycle. Secondly, it is the only end-to-end integrated ALM-PLM vision that also encompasses embedded software and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) aspects.

Benefits of this approach include:

  • Productivity through closed-loop Software and Product Development from inception to EOL
  • Quality Assurance via modeling & simulation as part of MBSE for continuous software validation
  • Cost Containment due to more effective software delivery and reuse as well as optimization of software design decisions in context
  • Scalability due to the proven enterprise infrastructure that requires minimal organizational adjustment

In today’s presentation, Vera and Rizzo will cover specific milestones including the planned General Availability (GA) of the first phase of the integration, scheduled for March 2015. Stay tuned for additional announcements.
