Findings of Once-in-a-Lifetime Simulation Summit to be presented at COFES 2015

IntrinSIM and Cyon Research announced that the key findings of their jointly held summit: ASSSESS (Analysis, Simulation and Systems Engineering Software Summit will be presented on Thursday, April 16, at COFES 2015.

ASSESS, the Analysis, Simulation, and Systems Engineering Software Summit was a watershed event. Modeled after the great summits in the sciences of the early 20th century, bringing together influential representatives from major engineering corporations, leading industry analysts, software and hardware vendors, and distinguished members of the academic and financial communities. The ambassadors to the summit were among the leading thinkers of our industry, and people of substantial influence with the power to effect change. The summit was underwritten by the non-profit Center for Understanding Change (http://c4uc.org) and hosted by the Santa Fe Institute (http://santafe.edu). The list of ambassadors and sponsors can be found at http://cofes.com/assess

The Summit was designed to put a stake in the ground and prioritize issues facing the simulation software market as a whole, and to discuss how we can address these issues.  The ambassadors raised 108 issues addressing the Analysis, Simulation and Systems Engineering Software community.  These issues were organized into five major areas for consideration by five working breakout groups. Each group then presented their top priority issues to the plenary of ambassadors.

The plenary then discussed and debated the relative importance of the presented issues, resulting in a ranked list, with seven issues standing significantly higher than the others. The summit concluded with seven ambassadors volunteering to present and discuss in depth and these key issues, at COFES 2015. The issues (and presenters) are:

  • Analysis and Optimization pre-CAD
  • Presented by Dipankar Choudhury, of ANSYS
  • The Ability to combine heterogeneous models in an automated and reliable way
  • Presented by Steve Coy, of Timelike Systems, with Hubertus Tummescheit, of Modelon
  • Unsexy stuff is key
  • Presented by Mary Fortier, of General Motors
  • Knowledge Capture and reuse of simulation output (i.e., turning data into knowledge) for design, model and simulation construction, problem formation, and system performance (not SLM, SDM, or SPDM)
  • Presented by Marc Halpern, of Gartner
  • Web, Cloud, Mobile (platform)
  • Presented by Jon Hirschtick, of Onshape
  • Design-Centered Workflow
  • Presented by Keith Meintjes, of CIMdata
  • Usability
  • Presented by Malcolm Panthaki, of Comet Solutions

Brad Holtz, president and CEO of Cyon Research, and Joe Walsh, President of intrinSIM, will continue work with those in attendance to discuss the next steps for an ASSESS  (Analysis, Simulation and Systems Engineering Strategy) initiative.

This special ASSESS session at COFES is free of charge but by invitation only. COFES 2015 is also by invitation only (fee required).  Interested parties should contact Brad Holtz of Cyon Research or Joe Walsh of intrinSIM to obtain an invitation.  It is highly recommended that those attending this ASSESS summary review also consider attending COFES as this will enable ongoing discussions with many of the original ASSESS ambassadors and others interested in the ASSESS initiative.
