CD-adapco Celebrates 35 Years of Engineering Success at STAR Global Conference

CD-adapco™ is celebrating its 35-year anniversary at the STAR Global Conference, which begins today in San Diego. As the largest independent developer of simulation tools for engineering and design, CD-adapco has grown from a three-person outfit that originated in an attic in 1980 into an international multi-faceted business conglomerate with 34 global offices and revenues approaching $200 million.

This year's event will host over 75 simulation experts from around the world, kicking off with a keynote speech from Paul DePodesta, New York Mets VP of player development and scouting. DePodesta is the brains behind the "Moneyball" revolution that spawned a New York Times best-seller and an Oscar-nominated blockbuster film. Following DePodesta's keynote, CD-adapco Sr. VP of Product Management Jean-Claude Ercolanelli will explore the future of engineering simulation and unveil the official release of STAR-CCM+® v10.02, the newest version of the company's flagship simulation tool. CD-adapco staff and industry experts will be on-site to showcase and demonstrate all aspects of the release.

SGC 2015 also marks the 35-year anniversary of CD-adapco. The company is reflecting on 35 years of engineering simulation software success as it advanced from an idea shared among friends to a global phenomenon.

"The solution of complex industrial engineering problems requires simulation tools that can cross engineering disciplines," said Steven MacDonald, co-founder, President and CEO of CD-adapco. "From the very beginning, our philosophy was to push the boundaries of our simulations as far away from the area of interest as possible, capturing all of the relevant physics, minimizing approximation, and taking account of all the factors that are likely to influence the performance of a product or design in its working life.

"Fully realizing that vision has taken 35 years of hard work, involving many of the most talented engineers and developers that industry has to offer. I am proud of all we have accomplished."

In 1980, Steven MacDonald, Bill Wheeler and Marc Whittlesey identified a market for engineers who needed to solve difficult problems involving turbulence, heat transfer and combustion with speed and precision. From this need the company was born as this talented group of innovators developed the techniques and methods necessary to drive their technology and revolutionize the world of engineering.
