Konica Minolta signs up 3D for a brighter future

After signing a distribution agreement with 3D Systems, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia officially enters the rapidly emerging 3D printing market, and becomes the first manufacturer to sell, support and service 3D Systems’ products in Australia.

Although 3D Printing is used in many different industries including defence, automotive, industrial or medical, Konica Minolta will start with a focus on education, manufacturing, architects and print bureau industries.

The overall market size for the additive manufacturing industry was estimated to be $3.1 billion in 2013, with an annual growth of 35 percent over sales of $2.3 billion in 2012 (Wohlers Associates, Wohlers report 2014: Additive manufacturing and 3D printing state of the industry, 2014).

The scope capabilities of 3D printing will allow designers and manufacturers to create complex geometry and individually customised objects that cannot be manufactured using conventional manufacturing techniques.

As the technology will continue to improve, its ability to enhance product performance and business productivity is expected to continue to increase, slowly becoming a commonly used technology for basic production activities.

“We are excited to be able to work with a recognised industry leader, offering the most comprehensive suite of 3D printers and services in Australia. Our goal is to arm our nationwide, exceptional sales organisation with cutting-edge products, solutions and services that help our customers grow their business and gain a competitive edge,” said George Fryer, General Manager Production Sales at Konica Minolta.
