Vestas Wind Systems Selects Dassault Systèmes “Sustainable Wind Turbines” Industry Solution Experience

Dassault today announced that Vestas Wind Systems A/S, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, has selected the “Sustainable Wind Turbines” industry solution experience for its manufacturing operations management.  Vestas can standardize its manufacturing systems and supply chain processes across sites worldwide and support future expansion plans.

By 2025, wind energy may satisfy an estimated 10 percent of the world’s electricity consumption.  However, in a volatile market, wind turbine manufacturers must have the flexibility to produce high-quality, reliable products in proximity to local markets and in accordance with local requirements.  With more than 56,800 wind turbines installed in 75 countries across six continents, Vestas wants to be able to produce any product at any plant as it expands to new locations, as well as ensure that its outsourcing strategy achieves cost and quality goals throughout a wind turbine’s 20-year design lifecycle.

Based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, “Sustainable Wind Turbines” leverages DELMIA Apriso applications and provides unparalleled engineering, manufacturing, and project management capabilities that integrate multidisciplinary information in a global collaborative environment.  It allows companies to virtually plan and validate their manufacturing processes before start of production, minimizing production costs, shop floor delays and issues, while ensuring higher product quality and the desired production throughout.

With its 19 manufacturing facilities globally, Vestas has a single, unified digital solution for real-time visibility and control over enterprise-wide manufacturing operations that can be securely integrated with its existing ERP system.  The company can coordinate and synchronize people, processes, equipment, tooling and materials, as well as processes beyond the wind turbine plant floor such as quality, warehouse, maintenance, labor and supply chain.  With greater operational flexibility and quicker response to change, Vestas can replicate improvements, design and build at any facility.

“Climate change and energy security are two of the most significant challenges the world faces today and future generations will inherit, emphasizing the importance of transitioning to economically profitable green energy solutions,” said Jean-Marc Lechêne, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Vestas.  “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows us to transform managing our manufacturing operations with a comprehensive approach.  We can improve business efficiencies, better adapt to local standards and help establish long-term sustainability solutions, for any market.”

“Manufacturers like Vestas aim to grow revenue and expand into emerging markets yet must achieve these objectives while improving efficiency and quality, eliminating waste, reducing cost, and keeping sustainability top-of-mind,” said Monica Menghini, Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, Dassault Systèmes.  “The ‘Sustainable Wind Turbines’ industry solution experience provides a digital foundation for enterprise quality, continuous improvement and regulatory compliance for the lowest total cost.”
