Industrial Internet Consortium Announces Three New Steering Committee Members

The Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC), the global public-private organization formed to accelerate adoption and enablement of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), announced three new steering committee members as the result of a special election. The new steering committee members join other global companies on the steering committee, including General Electric, Fujitsu, IBM, Intel, The MITRE Corporation, RTI, SAP and Schneider Electric, and have agreed to provide guidance and direction for the IIC for four years. They include:

  • Bosch Software Innovations - Dirk Slama, Director of Business Development
  • EMC - Said Tabet, Chief Architect for IoT Strategy
  • Huawei - Wang Xuemin, Director, Standardization and Industry Department

“At the IIC, we recognized the global value of diverse opinions and working relationships to facilitate continuous growth across industries and geographies,” said John Tuccillo, IIC Steering Committee Chair, and Senior Vice President of Global Industry and Government Affairs, Schneider Electric. “Bosch, EMC and Huawei have already been major contributors to the Industrial Internet, helping to drive IIC testbeds and working group activities. We look forward to their active leadership on the steering committee as the IIC continues to pave the way of the future of the Industrial Internet.”

“I accept the position as steering committee contributing member with great pleasure and look forward to providing strategic direction for content development, standards, and liaisons,” said Dirk Slama, Director of Business Development, Bosch Software Innovations. Previously, Mr. Slama led the first public IIC testbed, Track and Trace, from idea to commercial deployment, shaping IIC testbed processes and providing a blueprint for other testbeds. He was also the initiator and co-chair of the IIC Business Strategy and Solution Lifecycle (BSSL) Working Group, which supports the entire IIoT solutions lifecycle including internal fund raising, planning, building and operation of IIoT solutions. Mr. Slama was also one of the initiators and a key driver of the critically important collaboration between the IIC and Industry 4.0.

Said Tabet, Chief Architect for IoT Strategy, EMC, said, “As a steering committee member, I will offer insight and industry connections across multiple verticals and will look at the critical areas of data protection and privacy.” Previously, Mr. Tabet helped EMC to contribute its expertise to the IIC in such areas as information management, big data analytics, cloud deployments, security, and resource virtualization, among others. The INFINITE testbed, led by EMC, was one of the first successful IIC testbeds. Mr. Tabet has assisted with testbed evaluations and has actively contributed to both the Technology and Security Working Groups. He has also fostered and maintained relationships with external bodies such as ISO and governmental agencies in the US, Asia, and Europe.

“As a contributing member of the steering committee, I will help leverage Huawei’s presence as a global leader of ICT solutions as well as our strong regional presence in China, Asia and internationally through our global innovation centers,” said Wang Xuemin, Director, Standardization and Industry Department, Huawei. Huawei is also uniquely positioned to help the IIC expand its relationships with industry-leading IT and communications standards development organizations (SDOs), consortia, open-source communities, and alliances. Huawei is a co-chair on the Technology Working Group. Previously, Huawei representatives were co-chairs of three groups: Liaison, Analytics and Innovation. Huawei led the Manufacturing Quality Management Testbed. The company also provided guidance in the development of the IIC’s China Regional Team.

The newly-elected steering committee members will officially take their seats at the IIC’s quarterly member meeting in St. Leon-Rot, Germany on September 19th.
