CIMdata Announces Addition of AEC & Manufacturing Convergence Consulting Practice

Bridging information and processes between AEC and manufacturing to improve efficiency and create more value from bid proposal to commissioning and ongoing operation of facilities and infrastructure.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, 20 April 2016—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces the addition of an AEC & Manufacturing Convergence consulting practice. This consulting practice focuses on bridging the flow of data and integrating processes between manufacturing and the design, fabrication, and operation of facilities and infrastructure to reduce waste from project proposal through commissioning, reduce budget and timeline contingencies, improve quality and compliance, and better enable a seamless flow of information to support ongoing operation, maintenance, and upgrades.

To support this new practice, Peter Bilello, President of CIMdata, announces that Edward (Ed) Martin will lead the practice and will have the title of Director, AEC & Manufacturing Convergence Consulting Practice. “We are extremely pleased that Mr. Martin will be leading this new practice, working alongside CIMdata’s extensive senior level consulting staff to expand CIMdata’s consulting capabilities in the areas of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and their links to the manufacturing industry,” stated Mr. Bilello.

Mr. Martin has deep experience from more than two decades in the manufacturing industry and almost ten years with a leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Building Information Management (BIM) solution provider. Within manufacturing, he has successfully driven product modularization strategies and the adoption of lean manufacturing principles to improve manufacturing performance. His PLM experience includes developing product strategies for solutions including facility layout, NC fabrication, visualization, product configuration, and rules-driven design. He has also driven customer business value for processes ranging from bid proposal to reality capture, supplier collaboration, and BIM and equipment design integration.

“The opportunities for building products across manufacturers, fabricators, architectural and engineering firms, construction firms, and owner/operators to leverage the convergence of AEC and manufacturing workflows are vast,” stated Mr. Martin. He continued, “Current practices do not leverage all the opportunities to improve the creation and flow of both information and materials. By improving digital workflows using PLM technologies integrated with BIM, customers can enable greater efficiency by improving design coordination, expanding offsite fabrication, incorporating automation, and improving material identification. Applying a lifecycle approach to facilities combined with IoT technologies also creates the potential to transform maintenance and upgrades of facilities and unlock new service-based business models. The convergence of AEC and manufacturing promises to deliver significant benefits throughout the value chain to manufacturers, design service providers, contractors, and owner/operators.”

CIMdata’s AEC & Manufacturing Convergence consulting practice aims to work with industrial companies, and software and service solution providers to fill the current gaps between AEC and manufacturing disciplines. With the addition of this new consulting practice, CIMdata offers a portfolio of strategic management consulting services for industrial organizations and solution providers and their partners who offer PLM enabling business solutions, including PDM, BIM, IoT, visualization, and collaboration solutions. A few of these services and deliverables include:
