Earlier this year, Autodesk announced plans to introduce Spark, a new open platform for 3D printing, aimed at making it simpler and more reliable to print 3D models and easier to control how that model is printed. Now, Autodesk is collaborating with Local Motors, a leader in open-source hardware innovation, to utilize the Spark platform as Local Motors continues to develop the Strati, the world’s first 3D printed car. “The Spark platform is set to accelerate manufacturing innovation,” said Alex Fiechter, head of community management for Local Motors. “From capturing our ideas more accurately to guiding Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) and simplifying the creation of machine code, Spark will help us to turn digital models into an actual physical production parts far faster than was previously possible.” The recently unveiled Strati is being developed by Local Motors team at the DOE’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), one of the nation’s leading innovation centers around

The latest release 2.4 of the EPLAN Platform is now available for download and, for the first time, also as a 64-bit version. Overall, the CAE system impresses by providing additional opportunities to increase efficiency during the engineering process. The simplified representation of the PLC communication networks makes the documentation and management of PLC structures clearer and also simpler. The sub-project management also enhances the overview. Specific sections can be extracted from a project, individually edited and merged back into a final project. As a result, complete and high-quality documentation is created and users can concentrate specifically on their required tasks. The change protection for areas of the project which have already been approved is another helpful option: This means that any changes made to the objects in those areas are protected. This way, areas which have been fully planned or parts which have already been manufactured cannot be changed
