The Shape of Things to Come

All companies use some form of imagery to describe their overall strategy or approach. Most geometric figures have been used at one time or another by players in the PLM space. Currently, Siemens PLM Software uses a half sphere or dome to describe how their HD-PLM provides an immersive decision-making environment.   With the advent of V6 and now the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, Dassault Systèmes uses a spiral to denote the lifecycle from ideation to use and back again, and the circle for their 3DEXPERIENCE Compass. And now at their most recent event, the dominant shape at PTC Live Global was the hexagon (sorry about the picture quality from my iPad):   Early in the event, the shape helped to nicely array the six parts of PTCs business around the outside, i.e., CAD, PLM, SCM, ALM, SLM, and now Internet of Things (IoT). This was used even down to the portal through which most speakers went

PDF Key takeaways: Dassault Systèmes’ has made significant progress in refining and implementing their next generation strategy and platform for “realistic simulation” Performance simulation technology from SIMULIA, CATIA, and the new BIOVIA brand portfolio is a key element and enabler of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE strategy and platform  The ultimate goal and the challenge for Dassault Systèmes is delivering their robust simulation technology not only to the traditional SIMULIA analysis specialists, but making the results of simulation best practices available to and readily consumable by the broader base of engineers and management within the 12 major industry segments that they serve Dassault Systèmes held their annual SIMULIA Community Conference, an international event, from May 19-22 in Providence, Rhode Island. The agenda included keynote briefings from Bernard Charlès, CEO of Dassault Systèmes, as well as the executive team of SIMULIA including Scott Berkey, CEO of Dassault Systèmes Simulia Corporation. Passionate and engaging as always, Mr. Charlès kicked off

Zuken announces manufacturing cost reductions through enhanced electrical design. The latest version of E3.series – Zuken’s electrical and fluid CAD software – contains integration with B&R Automation Studio, data export for drilling and milling machines, XVL output for Lattice viewer, and enhanced support for Komax and eCl@ss. Support for harness families and harness derivatives within a single design offer time-saving benefits for the transportation sector. “Today, workers often need to manually interpret manufacturing documentation in order to assemble control systems. Now, with automatically-produced wires and step-by-step routing instructions, the need to read and interpret these documents is removed. This gives companies the option to retain assembly in-house, thereby reducing manufacturing outsourcing costs.” - Joachim Frank, Director of E3.series business Manufacturing process cost reductions E3.series 2014A adds new and enhanced manufacturing features to reduce manufacturing costs.  Manufacturing output for drilling and milling machines is automatically-produced by E3.CutOut. This uses drill hole and cutout definitions from the E3.series

Flow Science, Inc. announces the availability of a new release of FLOW-3D Cast, version 4. A major release, FLOW-3D Cast v4 is based on the recently-released solver for FLOW-3D version 11 and provides users many new simulation tools to improve metal castings as well as a new innovative and intuitive Model Setup panel that greatly reduces the time required to create real-world simulations. Users are guided through the simulation setup process by the logically arranged setup panels at the left side of the Model Setup window. Elements of the casting process are entered by their actual names (e.g., mold, casting parts, filters) and appropriate physical models are activated automatically. “The driving factor behind the development of FLOW-3D Cast has always been to closely reflect the workflow and needs of our customers so that they can improve product development, speed up production and deliver high-quality products to market before their competitors,” commented John
