DST Announces SimWise V9.5

DST (Design Simulation Technologies, Inc.; www.design-simulation.com), announced the availability of SimWise V9.5. This release continues to expand the Optimization, FEA, CAD Integration, and Interoperability capabilities of the product. Dimension and other parameters from select CAD systems can now be transferred to SimWise and used as optimization variables. During an optimization run new values for these parameters are sent back to the CAD system where the CAD model is updated and sent back to SimWise to be used in the next optimization step. This allows part shapes to be changed as a result of quantities calculated by a dynamic motion simulation or an FEA analysis. V9.5 introduces a new 3D FEA mesh generator that is more robust and faster than previous versions. Users can expect quicker results from FEA and Motion plus FEA simulations and optimizations that include FEA results. The Geomagic Design CAD system from 3D Systems joins SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor and SpaceClaim Engineer

Bentley Institute Press announced the publication of Principles of Structural Analysis – Static and Dynamic Loads, the second book in a three-part series. This compendium of information about STAAD.Pro – a mainstay of Bentley’s 3D structural analysis and design engineering software – bridges the gap between structural engineering concepts and their practical application to real-world challenges. The book is authored by Bentley Systems technical support director Krishnan Sathia, a structural engineer with more than 15 years of experience developing and applying STAAD.Pro. Principles of Structural Analysis – Static and Dynamic Loads is written for a broad spectrum of readers pursuing an in-depth understanding of structural information modeling best practices. Students and early career structural engineers will learn how to model, analyze, and design using STAAD.Pro, while seasoned practitioners will benefit from detailed explanations of STAAD.Pro’s many advanced features. Said Sathia, “I’ve written this book to help students become structural engineers and practitioners to become more proficient and productive. For instance, in addition to

Braskem, Latin America’s largest petrochemical company, has signed a contract with AVEVA to convert the engineering and design data of 12 of its plants to AVEVA PDMS during 2014. This large contract is the result of a successful pilot project executed earlier this year. Braskem chose AVEVA over several other software vendors, attributing their decision to the confidence they had built up in AVEVA’s technology and personnel during the pilot project. ‘These petrochemical plants were originally designed with software from another company,’ explained Luis Henrique Barreto, Coordinator of Engineering Systems and Documents, Braskem. ‘AVEVA PDMS offers us reliable continuity and the integrity of the original models. Combined with the excellent post-sales support and service we receive from AVEVA, this will ensure that the conversion runs smoothly creating high quality models without significant data loss. At the end of the process we will have AVEVA PDMS models of all of our plants,

Delcam’s German customers will have their first chance to see the 2015 versions of the company’s FeatureCAM and PowerMILL CAM systems on stand 4B-32 at the AMB exhibition to be held in Stuttgart from 16th to 20th September.  Both of the programs contain major enhancements that will help manufacturing companies to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce lead times. The new release of PowerMILL, Delcam’s programming system for high-speed and five-axis machining, includes improvements to the Vortex high-efficiency area-clearance strategy, expanded collision checking to also cover near misses, and more efficient raster finishing. Vortex produces safe toolpaths with a much deeper cut by using a controlled engagement angle that maintains the optimum cutting conditions for the whole toolpath.  As a result, higher feed rates and material-removal rates are possible, making the cutting time shorter by as much as 70%.  In addition, cutting is undertaken at a more consistent volume-removal rate and at
