Mazda Motor Corporation has signed ProSTEP iViP’s Code of PLM Openness (CPO). In addition to Isuzu Motors, it is the third Japanese automobile manufacturer to sign the CPO within a week. Toyota’s participation has made one thing very clear: The drive toward increased openness in PLM is becoming stronger. Additional Japanese car manufacturers are expected to commit to the CPO initiative soon as well. Another sign of how important a particular concept is on the market is the position taken by the world’s major IT firms regarding the concept. IBM, for example, one of the leading global IT corporations, has recognized the importance of the CPO for itself and its new PLM activities, and has also signed the CPO. Increased openness and less integration work save money and make work easier – not only for users, but for software providers and integrators as well. Nemetschek Allplan can look back with pride on its 30 years of software experience in the AECM sector (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Management) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). The year 1984 represents a turning point in the development of Allplan, for it is when a version of the current BIM solution first appeared. It marked a move away from the drawing board and a step into the digital world of 3D planning.  A crucial development to the BIM solution came in 1986 with the first integrated system for architects and engineers that took construction semantics into account. The company founder, Professor Georg Nemetschek, explained in an interview: “I believe that information technology is the solution that will allow us to transfer the digital world that the architect has in their head into the structure, without any loss of data. I think that two things will emerge in future: the actual structure and

Core Solutions today announced that it has signed an agreement with Berkshire Blanket Inc. to implement CORE’s CBX software as the common platform to support the company’s product development. Berkshire Blanket is the largest designer and importer of consumer blankets in the United States, selling its products through retailers around the world and also through online channels. The company had no automated systems to manage product development and was facing issues with numerous spreadsheets, manual material library and an inability to collaborate effectively internally. CBX will help Berkshire create and maintain their collections, including color, size, bill of material, packaging and quality requirements. Social collaboration and critical path management features will also be employed to enable effective communication and timely product development. “We chose CBX based on their strong experience supporting retailers and brands like us in the design and development of apparel and other soft goods products,” said Dick Horner, CFO at
