The latest video added to the Delcam.tv website shows the high metal-removal rates that are possible with the Vortex high-efficiency area-clearance strategy in Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM system for high-speed and five-axis machining.  The demonstration shows Vortex in use on a DMG 65 monoBLOCK five-axis machining centre fitted with Seco tooling.  Other strategies shown in the video include five-axis drilling, sawmill slot milling and five-axis engraving. To watch the video, please go to www.delcam.tv/DMGMORI  Delcam’s Vortex strategy gives the fastest safe metal removal from solid carbide tooling, in particular from designs that give deeper cuts by using the full flute length as the cutting surface.  The strategy, which is also included in Delcam’s FeatureCAM feature-based machining software and the PartMaker system for the programming of turn-mill equipment and Swiss-type lathes, can be used for two- and three-axis roughing, three-plus-two-axis area clearance and for rest machining.  It gives significant time savings regardless of the

PDF Key takeaways: Portfolio, product, and process complexity issues are easy to identify and difficult to quantify but have real impact throughout the product lifecycle Actively managing complexity enables resources to be allocated to higher value activities such as developing profitable product differentiation and more efficient product production Identifying and eliminating sources of non-value-added complexity is not enough, applying a targeted governance strategy and supporting processes can prevent complexity from creeping in Accenture’s end-to-end product complexity management solution focuses on managing product portfolio, design, and process complexity to reduce costs, drive efficiency, and improve profitability The Business Impact of Complexity Complexity can manifest in many areas including the product portfolio, product development, and product production. While not all complexity is bad, care must be taken to ensure that any embedded complexity has real value. Some product complexity is needed to meet diverse customer needs or to differentiate products in the marketplace. The key is how to decide

Tekla, a Trimble company, introduced Tedds 2015, a new version of its software for automating repetitive civil and structural calculations for engineers. Added after Trimble’s acquisition of CSC in 2011, Tedds is an integral part of the Tekla portfolio of software for the architectural, engineering and construction industry. This release includes new features and enhancements that can increase productivity and significantly reduce the time engineers spend producing calculations and associated documentation. New features allow engineers to better analyze and design beams to Eurocode—the harmonized technical rules developed by the European Committee for Standardisation for the structural design of construction works in the EU. The new capabilities also enable users to simultaneously review multiple loading configurations, and produce high-quality documentation that combines numerous calculations into a single report. Barry Chapman, Director of Engineering at Tekla said, “Tedds 2015 enhances the Tekla portfolio and illustrates our commitment to meeting the changing needs of structural

Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refinery Company Ltd. (YASREF) has recently chosen Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise solutions to optimize the operation and maintenance of its full-conversion refinery. The project is a significant undertaking and involves the construction and operation of a 400,000-barrel per day (bpd) integrated petroleum refinery in Saudi Arabia. YASREF initially used several solutions from the SmartPlant suite, including SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant P&ID and PDS®. YASREF later implemented the Engineering Document Management System (EDMS) based on SmartPlant Foundation to achieve complete integration. YASREF has achieved fully integrated plant design in order to provide fast, intuitive and role-based access to help manage the most accurate engineering documents. SmartPlant Foundation has provided all required features to manage engineering documents including storage of electronic engineering documents, methods to search and download/upload documents, and full Management of Change (MOC). Abdulhannan M. Karim, senior engineer at YASREF, said, “For YASREF, we executed the implementation of the EDMS in its

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) recently set a new world record by scaling CD-adapco’s flagship simulation tool STAR-CCM+® to 102,000 cores on the Blue Waters supercomputer. STAR-CCM+ is a comprehensive multidisciplinary engineering simulation tool used across many industries to stimulate innovation and lower product development costs. CD-adapco joined with NCSA’s Private Sector Program and Blue Waters manufacturer Cray to push the code to new heights and address the ever-increasing demands of fast turnaround time. According to Ahmed Taha, the NCSA senior computational resource coordinator who led this extreme benchmarking project, using such a massive number of cores requires a powerful, robust MPI protocol, which was provided by Cray. CD-adapco also fine-tuned their code to improve parallel I/O. The result of this collaborative effort over the past eight months was a steady increase in scaling, from a 105 million cell model running on 13,000 cores to a 1 billion cell model hitting
