Materialise, a global leader in 3D printing solutions, introduces CO-AM, an open software platform to manage the additive manufacturing (AM) production process more efficiently. CO-AM will give manufacturers cloud-based access to a full range of software tools that allow them to plan, manage and optimize every stage of their AM operations. With CO-AM, Materialise addresses the untapped potential to use AM for serial manufacturing and mass personalization. The Materialise CO-AM software platform builds on more than three decades of 3D printing experience and is an important milestone in the company’s strategy to offer cloud-based access to its entire software suite. The open architecture of the platform lets users integrate all of their preferred tools, allowing customers in major manufacturing industries, including aerospace, automotive, consumer, medical and energy, to always have access to the latest software innovations and to scale their operations based on their current needs. At the same time, CO-AM

A collaborative team from Promation, ModuleWorks, and Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing (MSAM) Laboratory of the University of Waterloo has developed and successfully tested a new method for manufacturing overhang geometries without the need for support structures. The tests were conducted at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada using Laser Directed Energy Deposition (LDED). By eliminating support structures, the team was able to simplify process planning and reduce waste material. Parts with geometric overhangs, such as pipes with bends, pose a special challenge for additive processes that deposit material in horizontal layers. To deposit material in the overhang area of the bend, the process needs to incorporate support structures that allow the layers to extend beyond the pipe. This works well enough but incorporating support structures adds time and effort to production planning and creates extra waste material. To simplify and speed up the LDED process, Promation, ModuleWorks, and MSAM teamed up to

Design engineers face daily challenges. These typically include slow CAE analysis, having to set up an analysis model for each new design iteration, siloed simulations that differ from real world product performance, and delays in moving from CAD to CAE. Four key improvements in Simcenter 3D Simcenter 3D has been dedicated to helping you overcome these challenges, and its newest release continues to build on that promise with four key improvements: More multidisciplinary integration for more increased model complexity Faster simulation processing to aid decision making and support deadlines Better integration of separate simulation processes for more accurate performance predictions Automatic model syncing between design phases to move from CAD to CAE more quickly Industry-specific enhancements in Simcenter 3D Rotor dynamics – as used in aerospace and power generation Gear systems – used in automotive and many other industrial applications Materials – non-linear analysis of materials, especially composites used in many applications Additive manufacturing If you find that, like many designers, up to

The Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) has proven itself as the most widely adopted format for system simulation model exchange and the de facto industry standard for model exchange and co-simulation. FMI version 3.0, now released by the Modelica Association, is a major milestone for the standard with new features that enable the use of FMI in important new use cases: advanced co-simulation, virtual Electronic Control Units (vECUs), the next generation of Digital Twins, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving applications. FMI 2.0 has established itself as the most widely adopted format for model exchange and co-simulation since its creation as the result from the publicly funded MODELISAR project. The royalty-free nature of Modelica Association standards and availability of open-source and commercial solutions right from the first publication have contributed to its rapid and wide adoption across many industries: automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, buildings, energy, manufacturing, and others. More than 170 tools officially support FMI, and

The digitization and networking of products creates great added value in development, production, operation and service. At the Hannover Messe, CONTACT Software is demonstrating the many ways in which companies are already benefiting from end-to-end data-driven Industry 4.0 applications. Intelligent asset management, real-time production control or closed-loop engineering: CONTACT Software is highlighting the enormous potential of smart industrial solutions in Hanover with the new version of its open low-code platform Elements and a robot from Mitsubishi Electric. Visitors will experience live how the physical product interacts with its digital twin and how its movement and operating data are monitored on a dashboard. CONTACT's fair presentation again addresses professionals who want to dive deeper into concrete scenarios for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and end-to-end product lifecycle management (PLM). In the Elements for IoT platform, they can see, for example, which factory floor a machine, plant or robot is on. They track their shift

OPEN MIND at BIEMH 2022

OPEN MIND Technologies AG will be exhibiting at BIEMH from 13 to 17 June 2022. At booth C31 in hall 2, OPEN MIND Technologies will be showcasing the innovative technologies featured in the latest Version 2022.1 of its hyperMILL® CAD/CAM suite, including machining strategies from 2.5D to 5-axis, digital twin technology, automated programming, and an array of additive manufacturing solutions. To give visitors a glimpse into some of the many real-life applications for hyperMILL®, they can take in live demonstrations of machine tools as they are being made. One of the highlights at the trade fair is hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining and OPEN MIND’s presentation will demonstrate the modules that are used to consistently generate, optimize, and simulate NC code. To make this all possible, the software works with virtual representations of the actual CNC machines and uses simulations based on NC code, allowing multi-axis machining operations to be optimized by taking into account the individual limitations of the machine.
