CAM developer Delcam and tooling supplier Technicut have partnered to produce a novel method for blisk machining that delivers remarkable savings in both time and cost.  The new method covers the machining of the blisk from start to finish and combines new tooling concepts from Technicut with advanced machining strategies in Delcam’s PowerMILL software for the rough, semi-finish and finish machining of integrally bladed rotors. A video of the new process can be seen on the Delcam AMS channel on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1nqbQHV1Ew  In this example, the cycle time was reduced to 35 hours, less than half the time that would have been needed using conventional methods, while the costs for milling were reduced by 45%.  The initial billet was 804 mm diameter Ti6-4 titanium, while the completed blisk had 31 blades, each 84mm in length with a root radius of 4mm and scallop height of 10µm. Blisks are used increasingly in

aPriori, a provider of enterprise product cost management (EPCM) software solutions today announced the immediate availability of aPriori 2015 R2. This second major software release of 2015 features the introduction of several important new cost models that will help manufacturers get quick answers to cost questions as they evaluate a variety of design alternatives that require Stamping, Machining, Casting and Finishing manufacturing processes to be created. In a survey published by Techvalidate in August of 2015, more than 50% of manufacturers indicated that it takes 3 weeks or more to get a cost estimate for a new product design using traditional manual cost estimating techniques, or by requesting a quote from a supplier. Another 34% said it takes anywhere from 1 – 2 weeks to get a cost estimate. (Source: TechValidate. TVID: 490-81A-649) With more than 200 automated cost models in the core product, aPriori can provide answers to cost questions

Selerant announced today that it has launched the Selerant Collaboration Portal (SCP), a new vendor management tool for process manufacturers. This new portal will provide a more controlled, efficient, and secure data synchronization between suppliers and manufacturing companies, using Selerant's web-based Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool, DevEX. "Typically, vendor data is received by several different ways, such as spreadsheets, emails, and actual paper communication," explains Selerant CTO, Jacopo Colombo. "Manually entering all of the data creates several issues, not the least being data accuracy. One error can lead to a significant cascade and can result in non-compliance, serious cost controls, delays, and quality control." Selerant's Supplier Collaboration Portal (SCP) provides a clearer path from the source (supplier) to the DevEX PLM database. The process begins with configurable questionnaires that structure how and what data is uploaded by a vendor. The questionnaires can be organized into a hierarchy and utilize workflow processes to initiate

Mentor Graphics Corporation today announced availability of verification IP (VIP) for the ARM AMBA 5 AHB on-chip interconnection specification. Available in the Mentor [®] Enterprise Verification Platform™ (EVP), this new VIP simplifies and speeds up the verification process for designers using Questa [®] simulation and Veloce [®] emulation to verify chip designs using the new specification. As part of the Mentor [®] VIP library, the new VIP provides essential information for verifying designs using the interconnect specification—sequences, test plans, coverage and assertions for the memory types, and security and messaging features. "The ARM AMBA 5 AHB specification defines on-chip connectivity that is area-efficient, low-latency, and low-power for ARM-based embedded and IoT solutions," said Andy Nightingale, vice president of system IP marketing, systems and software group, ARM. "Mentor Graphics is providing verification IP to simplify development of interconnects for the next generation of ARM-based SoCs to meet the growing demand of the IoT

Theorem’s latest CADverter range of products now support the processing of Model Based Definition (MBD) information as standard. This is helping to streamline the manufacturing process into a paper free process by producing an information rich 3D CAD model that fully defines a product/component ready for manufacture. When working with different suppliers as part of the design and manufacturing process, there will always be a requirement to exchange design data back and forth. However, the CAD systems used by different suppliers may be different to the ones you use. So how do you go about exchanging data if it’s in a different format? Theorem’s CADverter products offer the capability to receive, create, work with or share CAD data that is not native to your own company. CADverter allows direct translation between many of the major CAD systems as well as standards based formats such as STEP. CADverter products translate assembly structure, geometry, attribute, and

CCE has released an update of its Unified Interop for Parasolid (UIOp) libraries.  “Rapid support of new revisions of CAD systems in our libraries is a hallmark of CCE. We have demonstrated this again with our support for SOLIDWORKS 2016 within 60 days of general availability,” said Vinay Wagle, CCE’s VP of Sales & Marketing. Besides supporting import of SOLIDWORKS 2016 data, Persistent ID support has also been enhanced in CATIA V5, Creo, and NX translators, which helps increase productivity for ISVs by allowing easier navigation within associative workflows, all the while making the process of updating changes more simple and efficient. In addition, users can now export to CATIA V5, SOLIDWORKS, NX, and JT, via a unified interface. Importing and exporting assemblies, with external references, has also been enhanced.  Unified Interop for Parasolid (UIOp) is a set of CAD independent interoperability libraries for Parasolid-based CAx Systems that provide read access to information stored in
