Synopsys, Inc. today announced that its collaboration with GLOBALFOUNDRIES has resulted in a comprehensive RTL-to-GDSII solution for the industry's first 22-nanometer (nm) fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) technology process. GLOBALFOUNDRIES' 22FDX™ platform delivers FinFET-like performance and energy-efficiency at a cost comparable to 28-nm planar technologies. The industry-leading implementation and signoff tools from the Synopsys Galaxy™ Design Platform have been enabled for the current version of GLOBALFOUNDRIES' 22FDX™ platform reference flow. A number of new and enhanced items in the latest release of Alphacam software focus on automation, reducing users’ CAD/CAM time. The new Automation Manager means 2D and 3D Cad files, along with solid models from third party software, can now be batch processed, from file preparation right through to applying  toolpaths, with NC code being generated automatically. In addition, the files create a full report structure, along with labels and bar coding. EMEA Sales Manager Michael Pettit says: “In a standard CAD/CAM system each file would have to be processed individually by inserting the file, extracting the features, applying tool directions and toolpaths, saving the file and NC code, then generating the required reports. But Alphacam takes a group, or batch, of files and automates the complete processing of the parts. “Overall, this will save the end user days and weeks, potentially even months of programming time in a year.”

Mentor Graphics Corp. today announced it is collaborating with GLOBALFOUNDRIES to qualify the Mentor® RTL to GDS platform, including the RealTime Designer™ physical RTL synthesis solution and Olympus-SoC™ place & route system, for the current version of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES® 22FDX™ platform reference flow. In addition, Mentor and GLOBALFOUNDRIES are working on the development of the Process Design Kit (PDK) for the 22FDX platform. The PDK includes support for the Mentor Calibre® platform, covering design rule checking (DRC), layout vs. schematic (LVS) and metal fill solutions for 22FDX. Cadence Design Systems, Inc. today announced that its digital and signoff tools are now enabled for the current version of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES® 22FDX™ platform reference flow. GLOBALFOUNDRIES has qualified these tools for the 22FDX reference flow to provide customers with the design flexibility of software-controlled body bias to manage power, performance and leakage needed to create next-generation chips for mainstream mobile, Internet of Things (IoT) and consumer applications. In addition, the ARM®Cortex®-A17 processor was used to validate the implementation flow with the Cadence® Innovus™ Implementation System and Genus™ Synthesis Solution. Cadence collaborated with GLOBALFOUNDRIES on the development of the Process Design Kit (PDK) for the 22FDX platform. Mentor Graphics Corporation today announced the winners of its first annual Don Miller Award for Excellence in System-Level Thermo-Fluid Design. Mentor Graphics established the award to recognize exceptional use of Flowmaster® software in research and real-world applications. The inaugural award was presented toAndrea Tradii, Stefano Rossin and Riccardo De Paolis of GE Oil and Gas on October 19th at the 31st International CAE Conference in Verona, Italy.
