Imagine a future in which wireless electricity makes everyday products more convenient, reliable, and environmentally friendly. WiTricity Corp. is working to make this a reality, developing wireless electricity technology that will operate safely and efficiently over distances.  The company was founded in 2007 to commercialize an exciting new technology for wireless electricity invented by world renowned physicists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With a growing list of global clients in industries including consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices and defense, WiTricity has emerged as the leader for IP and expertise in highly resonant wireless power transfer.  WiTricity was a typical start-up company with a small team managing design information in Excel spreadsheets. Even with the minimal amount of data they were managing, they were experiencing the chaos of manual processes.  Spreadsheet revisions were constantly changing with no formal change control process or centralized repository location.  They needed to replace their

US Preview of VISI 21 at IMTS

Major enhancements in the forthcoming new release of VISI, from Vero Software, will be on display for the first time in the US, at North America’s largest manufacturing technology exhibition – IMTS, from September 8 to 13. To be fully released at the end of October, VISI 21 includes completely new machining strategies for 2, 2.5 and 3-axis environments. In addition, a new toolpath simulation manages the ISO output, providing users with an enhanced and accurate virtual representation of the part, before committing it to the machine. The new release also introduces new “hybrid” milling strategies which will adapt different types of finishing toolpaths to match the component geometric form. Updated CAD developments include new technology for managing multiple instances of the same geometry. For example, multi insert molds and dies can now be managed simply with a single reference part which will update all subsequent updates of the same geometry if

ESI Group announces the second worldwide conference for users of OpenFOAM; free, open source CFD software developed by ESI-OpenCFD, licensed and distributed by the OpenFOAM Foundation. OpenFOAM is the most popular open-source Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code, widely used in the academic world and in industry. OpenFOAM owes its success to its extensive range of features that enable users to address anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions with turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics and electromagnetics. OpenFOAM addresses a very diverse community, ranging from academic institutions, where it is used in teaching a research, to commercial organizations. Today, large companies are implementing the code on an industrial scale for applications in automotive, chemical, marine, energy and heavy industry sectors. Given such a large and growing community, it’s no surprise the first OpenFOAM conference, held last year in Frankfurt, gathered over 250 participants coming from all around the world. The 2014 OpenFOAM conference will once again provide the perfect

Using Social Engagement to Drive Innovation Megan Pukala, Assistant Brand Manager, Fortune 500 company Innovation drives competitive advantage for today’s leading companies by seeding both the products and services that accelerate top-line growth as well as the cost and organizational efficiencies that deliver the bottom line. However, the large scale of these leading companies often includes processes and checkpoints that can slow the pace of innovation. One way big organizations have used “small” thinking to seed more disruptive and more frequent innovation is by encouraging and better-enabling employees to explore their own business-driving ideas outside of standard leadership-driven channels. In her talk, Megan Pukala will share her experience engaging employee minds across all levels to create ideas for a major category and brand. Megan will also discuss the collaborative backbone and the social platform used to facilitate ideation.
