Daniel Harari, Lectra CEO, and Edouard Husson, dean of ESCP Europe Business School, have inaugurated the Fashion and Technology Chair.  The new Lectra-ESCP Europe Chair, with a three-year tenure, is positioned at the crossroads of innovation and research. The Chair’s aim will be to develop and convey knowledge based on innovations within the fashion and luxury sectors, thanks to cutting-edge technologies.  Lectra and ESCP Europe started collaborating in 2011 with the establishment of i7, the Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness, of which Lectra is a founding member. The UK’s manufacturing sector is set to benefit from a major £887,000 research and development project called LIGHT that began on 12th December with a kick-off meeting at Delcam’s Birmingham headquarters.  The project, to be managed by Delcam, will make a definitive step change to the current use of additive manufacture for lightweight metal products through an empirical set of trials, benchmarks and demonstrators, making it easier for the whole UK manufacturing supply chain of design and manufacture to adopt the technology. The LIGHT project is being undertaken by a consortium of seven organisations that, in addition to Delcam, includes Bloodhound SSC, HiETA, CRDM/3DSystems, EOS, Simpleware and Magna Parva.  The project is receiving £495,000 of support from the UK’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board. Cimatron Limited today announced the launch of the ECO Manager, a major feature in CimatronE 11, the latest version of its integrated CAD/CAM software solution. CimatronE provides specialized CAD capabilities for the design of molds, dies and fixtures, as well as NC programming for the machining of molds, dies and discrete parts. 3D Systems Corporation announced today that it anticipates its full year revenue to be in the range of $513 million to $514 million, within its previously raised revenue guidance range of $500 million to $530 million on over 30% organic revenue growth and over 50% total revenue growth for the fourth quarter of 2013. Compared to its expectations, the company experienced much stronger professional 3D printers and materials demand and softer on-demand parts and consumer demand during the fourth quarter. As a result, the company expects to report its December backlog nearly doubled sequentially to $28 million which included multiple advanced manufacturing 3D printers orders that it plans to deliver over the next year.  These are preliminary, unaudited results based on current expectations and actual results may differ.
