CONTACT Open World 2017 in the Age of Digital Value Creation

CONTACT Software is making the digital transformation the main focus of this year's user conference. Under the motto "Energizing the Digital Engineering World", Open World 2017 will demonstrate new ways of connecting customers and smart products and developing digital business.

At CONTACT Open World 2017 in Fulda, experts from the worlds of industry, science and IT will be discussing the challenges that digitalization poses and the opportunities it offers: Smart products are changing the product engineering process, they are coming together through the Internet of Things (IoT), and they are enabling new business models.

Industry 4.0 and IoT require agile organizational structures and make software a key driver for value creation. In his keynote, Professor Dr. Gunter Dueck, former CTO of IBM, will examine the impact this is having on our working world. Oleg Shilovitsky, one of the world's leading PLM experts, will shed light on the latest developments in the sector. Dr. Oliver Bohl from the KfW banking group will report on his experience with companies that are forerunners when it comes to digitalization.

"Mechatronic product data and product models lie at the heart of the digital transformation," says CONTACT's Managing Director Karl Heinz Zachries. "What industry needs is methods and solutions that support the interdisciplinary development of smart products and user-centric IT applications in equal measure." CONTACT's answer is a distributed architecture based on its open Elements technology platform. In combination with state-of-the-art open-source components, it provides powerful modules for product-related applications in the development process and in the industrial Internet of Things.

In his keynote, CONTACT's Head of Software Development Frank Patz-Brockmann will outline the platform's key new developments and the future roadmap. He will also be presenting the new Elements for IoT modules Digital Twin, Device Management, Monitoring & Analytics and Customer Operations. Customers can now link the lifecycle of smart products, from the initial idea to product development right up to production, with the product use phase and thus implement Internet-based value-added services.

Open World offers an extensive specialist program involving CONTACT's product innovations that arise from the further development of its Elements platform. One example is the Elements User Experience Design System, which will support the coming version of 3D Connect. Workspaces and Project Office provide additional highlights "powered by" CONTACT Elements.

One highlight of a very special kind – and most likely not just for project managers – will be the keynote delivered by Lars Dietrich about the installation of the rail technology in the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. As Head of Technology, he played a major role in ensuring that this large-scale project with its many disciplines was completed successfully and a year earlier than planned.

Open World 2017 is being held on 28 and 29 June at the Maritim Hotel am Schlossgarten Fulda.
