MSC Software Corporation announced that Matzen & Timm, a producer of specified hoses, bellows and other flexible connective parts made of high-quality rubber materials, has selected MSC Software's Marc nonlinear simulation solution for structural analysis.
The hoses from Matzen & Timm are used by industries where precision and capacity are important - like aircraft and automotive design. Diameter, construction, pressure loads, temperature resistance and compliance requirements are essential in their design and development. In order to meet increasingly complex performance requirements, engineers at Matzen & Timm will use Marc to perform virtual testing.
Simulation will give engineers insight into the different operating conditions, internal pressures, relative motions, and behaviors occurring during the installation of the hoses. The objective of the analysis is to assess strength, flexibility and nonlinear buckling forces. The realistic and structural-mechanical behaviors cannot be accurately predicted without the consideration of the nonlinear effects. Matzen & Timm use a combination of different materials with partly nonlinear properties. For example, soft and highly nonlinear elastomers were combined with stiff fiber reinforcements or metal components.
"The main characteristics of our hoses are lightweight construction in combination with temperature resistance," explained Matzen & Timm managing director Dirk Baumann. "They have to withstand enormous encumbrances like pressure and temperature - for example in an airplane. Marc's versatility in modeling nonlinear material behaviors and transient environmental conditions makes it ideal for Matzen & Timm, as the company develops products based on the latest materials and sophisticated production engineering."
