Autodesk Joins Forces with U.S. Government to Drive Innovation in American Manufacturing

Autodesk, Inc. is proud to stand alongside the Obama Administration, the U.S. Department of Defense, UI Labs and various organizations in partnership on the recently announced, Chicago-based Digital Lab for Manufacturing. Led by UI Labs and comprised of industry, university, government and community stakeholders, the Digital Lab will be the nation’s flagship research institute for Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation, and its partners will work collaboratively to breathe new life into America’s manufacturing sector by promoting increased access to advanced technology, research and resources.

“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with the U.S. Government and UI Labs on the new Digital Lab for Manufacturing,” said Buzz Kross, senior vice president of Design, Lifecycle and Simulation at Autodesk. “We are at a crucial stage in the rebirth of American manufacturing, and the Autodesk team is passionate about providing education, training and technological support that will serve as a catalyst for industrial innovation here at home.”

A pillar of President Obama’s investment in United States manufacturing, and part of the envisioned network of public-private manufacturing institutes known as the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI), the Digital Lab for Manufacturing will seek to accelerate the nation’s industrial advancement through a combination of technological and collaborative solutions. Autodesk software will assist the Consortium’s education, workforce development and research efforts, which mirrors the Company’s own commitment to making advanced technologies increasingly accessible to students, entrepreneurs, innovators and organizations across a diverse range of sectors.

Autodesk’s support of the Digital Lab for Manufacturing comes just weeks after the company announced that it is expanding its Design the Future program and making available $250 million of 3D design software, project-based curricula, training and certification to every middle and high school in the United States in 2014.
