Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group Members to Present at CIMdata’s PLM Road Map @ GPDIS

Presentations from members of this aerospace & defense (A&D) industry-focused PLM advocacy group will consider digital twin/digital thread definitions and global collaboration in the aerospace and defense industry.

AD PAG logoAnn Arbor, Michigan, USA 8 September 2022— CIMdata, Inc. is pleased to announce that members of the Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group (AD PAG) will present at PLM Road Map @ GPDIS 2022. The conference will take place at the McCormick Ranch Hotel, Scottsdale, AZ, on Tuesday, 27 September. The theme is “Digital Transformation and PLM – a call for PLM Professionals to redefine and reposition the benefits and value of PLM.” The Global Product Data Interoperability Summit or GPDIS will take place on 28 & 29 September at the same location.

The first AD PAG member presentation is Digital Twin Continuity across the Product Lifecycle. In this presentation, Boeing’s Robert Rencher will update the research undertaken by a team of domain experts from AD PAG member companies to define objectives, requirements, and roadmaps for digital twin/thread solutions. In Phase 1 of the research, the team identified many digital twin/thread concepts and definitions. Phase 2 consisted of a digital twin/thread position paper intended to stimulate dialogue leading to consensus on a baseline definition and understanding of the current capabilities of the digital twin and thread in the A&D industry. Phase 3 evaluates the effectiveness of current Business Architecture Frameworks and Methodologies in support of the architectural definition of digital twins and digital threads. This presentation will provide an overview of the research findings and the implications for the current concepts of digital twins and digital threads.

The second presentation, An A&D Roadmap for Enabling Global Collaboration, offers an update on the work of the group’s Global Collaboration project team. This presentation by Robert Gutwein of Pratt & Whitney and Neil Lichty of Boeing addresses the premise that collaboration among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and their product design and manufacturing engineering partners and suppliers is key to any major A&D program. Process analysis by the project team has shown that the exchange of product data, such as 3D-MBD, Bill of Materials (BOM), and Model-Based Engineering (MBE), between multiple OEMs and suppliers presents a challenge within the industry. This presentation offers a new “Desired State” for OEM-supplier collaboration through the application of and adherence to a set of guidelines defined by the project team.

“It is a regular occurrence for thought leaders from A&D PLM Action Group projects to report on their teams’ work at CIMdata PLM Road Map conferences, says James Roche, CIMdata’s A&D Practice Director. “To have these speakers at a special CIMdata Road Map event in conjunction with GPDIS, where hundreds of their colleagues from the A&D industry will be gathered, will be especially impactful.”

In addition to presenting at PLM Road Map @ GPDIS, members of the AD PAG will be on hand to discuss group activities at their booth at the Vendor Fair.

About the Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group

Since its founding in 2014, the AD PAG, administered by CIMdata, has sponsored research and jointly staffed projects on a diverse set of prioritized PLM-related industry and technology topics. These topics include Model-Based Definition, Multiple-View Bill of Materials, PLM Technology Obsolescence Management, Global Collaboration, Model-Based Systems Engineering, and Digital Twin/Digital Thread. As an outcome of these investments, the AD PAG has released a series of direction statements and position papers that are freely available for downloading from its website at http://www.ad-pag.com/. Making these materials available is consistent with the Group’s mission to engage proactively within the PLM ecosystem and advocate for common direction and positions within the aerospace and defense industry on PLM-related topics of importance to the members.
