Expanded focus ensures CIMdata is well positioned to take advantage of the move towards a comprehensive model-based enterprise paradigm.
ANN ARBOR, Michigan, 19 January 2016—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) strategic management consulting and research firm, announces the formation of a Simulation-Driven Systems Development (SDSD) Practice and Knowledge Council. Mr. Donald Tolle will head up the initiative. Mr. Tolle transitions into this new role as a natural extension of his activities with CIMdata over the past 2½ years as Director of CIMdata’s Systems Engineering and Simulation Consulting Practice.
The new SDSD Knowledge Council represents the merger of CIMdata’s Systems Engineering Knowledge Council and Simulation & Analysis Knowledge Council activities. The new Council reflects the cross-industry and cross-discipline focus on the ever-expanding intersection of emerging model-based systems development methods and technologies with functional systems modeling and simulation tools and the best practices required to enable effective simulation-driven systems development. Within the context of industry’s move towards a next generation product development environment based on product innovation platforms, the SDSD Council will research, develop, and publicize market trends, technology gaps, implementation issues, and industry best practices for integrating simulation data, processes, tools, and people across the fragmented systems engineering disciplines of mechanical, embedded software, controls, and electronics, as well as supporting business functions, including VOC, requirements traceability, profitability and cost analysis, risk analysis, and others.
“CIMdata forecasts the implementation of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to be one of the most important initiatives in the development of complex cyber-physical systems, one that can have a profound impact on product innovation, quality, time to market, and enterprise profitability over the coming decade,” stated Mr. Peter Bilello, CIMdata’s President. “CIMdata strongly believes that the engineering community is now on the cusp of some truly transformational processes and related technology in the areas of behavior modeling and simulation of the complex cyber-physical systems envisioned in the future,” added Mr. Bilello.
Long time Simulation & Analysis and Systems Engineering Knowledge Council leads, Dr. Keith Meintjes and Mr. John MacKrell, will continue to provide technical thought leadership to the SDSD Practice and Knowledge Council. Both will also continue to represent CIMdata at external industry events.
“CIMdata wants to acknowledge Dr. Meintjes and Mr. MacKrell for their strong leadership of the Systems Engineering and Simulation & Analysis Knowledge Councils over the past decade. Based on their efforts, CIMdata is well positioned to continue to guide and support both our solution provider and industrial clients in this exciting transition towards a comprehensive model-based enterprise paradigm,” concluded Mr. Bilello.
