ModuleWorks and Power Automation have been working in partnership on applying Simulation and Real-Time collision avoidance to the CNC. The results of this partnership, in particular the use of multi-touch gestures giving outstanding ease of use, will be shown at EMO 2015 in October. The solution supports the full kinematic simulation of the machine incl. 3D real-time visualization in HD, fast-forward simulation of the manufacturing process and real-time collision avoidance with preventive stop. Everything from 3-axis to complex 5-axis milling is supported. Particular effort has been put into making the most of the touch interaction available on the control hardware.  Marc Hilpert, President of Power Automation, says ‘We are delighted with this unique development of the verification and in particular the real-time collision avoidance. We can not only detect a collision but even prevent it. This geometric perspective requires computing power which only a pc-based CNC System can offer. This gives

Over the years MachineWorks has been creating alternative ways of delivering better results, for example by combining the strengths of its geometric engines or by taking advantage of computer hardware developments, such as multi-core processors through multithreading. The reduction in usage of memory and continuous optimisation have given MachineWorks a cutting edge and have contributed to MachineWorks' customers staying ahead of competition.  Meanwhile, MachineWorks' developers in the R&D department were set the challenge of looking into 5-axis simulation, analysing every technique we knew and then coming up with a solution from a completely different perspective, thinking outside the box.  After years of developing and testing possible solutions, MachineWorks has produced a revolutionary new algorithm for 5-axis swept volume generation, which has advanced MachineWorks technology to a new height.  Some of the improvements that customers will be able to benefit from are, for example, fixing the dome effect created by conventional simulation approaches, giving

Zadi Group, a leading provider and manufacturer of electromechanical components for the automotive, agricultural and industrial sectors, as part of its new software initiative to better support its business, has chosen Solair’s Platform. Engineering data management, budgeting, sharing documents and information throughout the chain of designing and manufacturing, will take place within a single platform for all corporate functions and also for external stakeholders. It integrates traditional PLM functionalities and innovative IoT features within the same environment. This choice is fully consistent with the DNA of Zadi who have made innovative technologies one of their main differentiators, and today is preparing itself to face tomorrow’s Internet of Things challenges. The three key advantages from the choice of Solair are: - integration: all the companies in the Group and their users, even if with different access rights, leverage a single platform: this facilitates interdisciplinary management of data and information. - simplification: individual tools that do not communicate across divisions are

In Thailand, Lantek is making the manufacture of steel structures considerably easier for Ajikawa & SCI Metal Tech. Based in Bangkok, the company manufactures masts and towers for power transmission lines up to around 500kV and for telecoms applications up to around 120m tall. In addition, Ajikawa & SCI also produce general structures for solar power farms, bridges and wind turbines. Originally, the company purchased Lantek software several years ago to program its PROArc plasma cutting machine, but it did not realise how versatile the software was until Lantek’s local agent KSB3 Machine demonstrated the latest Lantek Expert Cut software and the Lantek Flex3d Steelwork software. Sanpetch Tiyaekapun, Section Manager at Ajikawa & SCI, says, “Our old software was DOS based and was slow and difficult to use. We are impressed by how fast and simple to operate the new system is. Furthermore, we can use it to program our other

SAP SE  today unveiled its new SAP Product Lifecycle Costing solution. This stand-alone offering, which is powered by SAP HANA, can be connected to ERP solutions and any other business system using existing data to create better pricing information for an initial product cost estimate. It is part of the SAP solution strategy for the extended supply chain, a holistic business approach to managing the entire lifecycle of a product, with connected processes in design, manufacturing, logistics and service. Manufacturing companies are facing increasing pressure to provide innovative, customer-driven products and quotations at competitive prices. Lack of product visibility early in the quoting process has typically resulted in profitability losses downstream, when the actual production order is priced. For some manufacturers, the variance between the quote and the production price results in profit losses counted in the millions of dollars. In manufacturing industries, product costing for new products is often performed using Microsoft Excel-based spreadsheets and

Infosys and General Electric are teaming up to create new technology that improves the efficiency and productivity of industrial machines, as they seek to fuel growth by expanding their portfolio of digital products. The partnership aims to develop so-called Internet of Things technology that helps derive practical benefits from large amounts of data generated through connected devices, the companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday evening. The Internet of Things -- the idea that products of virtually all kinds will one day be connected to the Internet and fully integrated -- is seen as key to software growth in the next few years, as connected devices are increasingly used for a wide range of activities such as controlling everyday electrical appliances from air conditioners to washing machines. "The internet of things is about dissolving the layers of complexity and the intermediaries that create distance between the point of manufacturing and the point
