ModuleWorks, the leading supplier of CAD/CAM components for 5-Axis machining and CNC simulation, and Fanuc Europe, a dedicated specialist for factory automation, are pleased to present the results of their partnership at EMO 2015 in Milan. On the ModuleWorks stand at EMO will be a demonstration of real-time collision avoidance running on the Fanuc controller.  This technology will be available to any machine tool company using Fanuc controls. The collision avoidance takes into account the entire machine environment, including machine elements such as the table and spindles, set-up elements such as clamps and fixtures, and job elements such as the in-process stock and tools. The simulation and collision checking is available in all controlled modes, including Jog mode, and can even be used for a dry-run to validate the NC program before machining. In addition, the simulation may be connected to Fanuc’s virtual control software, NC Guide, to allow offline simulation during the design

Engineers designing ship hulls and offshore floaters can now save time and money in the early design phase due to a breakthrough allowing transfer of 3D models from AVEVA Marine to Sesam GeniE, the two design and engineering software systems in the maritime and offshore market. The new functionality, initiated by AVEVA to respond to the demand of the market, allows users to transfer AVEVA hull models into DNV GL’s Sesam GeniE for strength assessment and code check according to DNV GL Rules. Now users can significantly reduce the time and effort spent in early design of ship hulls and offshore floaters, as they save the extra man-hours it takes to create separate analysis models from scratch in two different systems. Are Føllesdal Tjønn, Managing Director of DNV GL – Software, said, “With the new harmonized Common Structural Rules for tankers and bulk carriers entering into force, significantly more finite element analysis

Visitors to the specialist ARIA CAD/CAM exhibition in France between October 1 and 3, will see how an innovation in next year’s WorkNC Dental release means laboratories can offer a manufacturer’s warranty to prosthetists. The 2016 R1 version, which is being unveiled on the Vero booth, number 36, at the Cité Internationale in Lyon, features the Compliance Program, the integration of 3D implant connection design in its Implant module (Serf® and Tekka®), from the Global D development team. “The use of these connections ensures production repeatability, reinforcing relations between CAD/CAM, implant manufacturer, laboratory and prosthetist,” says WorkNC Dental Business Manager Laurent Journeau. “This goes beyond the use of a simple geometric form. It also defines and recommends how to follow a complete manufacturing protocol dedicated to machining connections, created and implemented jointly by Global D and WorkNC Dental. “In this way, laboratories are guided by a charter covering the use of

With Lantek Expert nesting technology, utilizing remnants of sheet material can deliver worthwhile cost savings. The CAD/CAM nesting software is able to model the way in which each company works with remnants, and establish rules from this, to intelligently manage their handling and use. The use of remnants is not always a clear cut decision, as cost of material, extra handling, the size of components being manufactured, the technology of the cutting machine itself and traceability requirements all need to be considered. Complications can arise with identification of remnants, building up a stock of unused remnants which are costly to store and interaction with the users existing production planning and MRP systems, which need to consider the use of remnants. With Lantek Expert, sheet metal companies can link to MRP systems to dynamically nest parts with the same material specification, as they are required. For remnants, the software can suggest the use
