Dr. Alain de Rouvray, Chairman and CEO of ESI Group, proposed to the Board of Directors on December 4th, 2013, the appointment of Dr. Christopher St.John as Chief Operating Officer of ESI Group. The Board accepted the nomination. Dr. Alain de Rouvray can now rely on two COO; Dr. Vincent Chaillou for the activities of the Edition and Strategic Marketing and Dr. Christopher St.John for the activities of Distribution and Support. Dr. Christopher St.John joined the Group in July 2008 as Director for Asia Pacific. Since February 2010 he has been responsible for Distribution operations in all geographic areas. His career includes more than 30 years with companies publishing and distributing CAE solutions and in engineering consultancy. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Imperial College, London, UK.

German toolmaker Lahnwerk GmbH has invested in new high-speed mills and five-axis machining centres, plus Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM software.  The outcome has been greatly improved surface quality and reduced manufacturing times. Lahnwerk, which employs 140 staff in Hessian Biedenkopf, specialises in the design and production of casting equipment, including patterns, dies and moulds, predominantly for cast metal components for cars and utility vehicles.  Since its establishment over 60 years ago, the company has developed into a full-service provider with a continuous process chain from 3D design right through to manufacturing, assembly and sample production in-house.  The milling area alone encompasses 25 CNC machines, including the latest C40 and C50 five-axis machines from Hermle, plus a three-axis RXP 1200 from Röders. These capabilities were presented at Autodesk University 2013 recently. 3D Systems announced today the acquisition of Village Plastics Co., a manufacturer of filament-based ABS, PLA and HIPS 3D printing materials. SmartCAM V2014 Released

SmartCAMcnc has announced the release of SmartCAM® v2014. SmartCAM v2014 delivers a redesigned and improved user interface that assists in usability, ease of learning and user efficiency, plus a variety of milling process modeling, toolpath verification and geometry modeling improvements. The SmartCAM product family consists of Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) applications for Computer-Numerical Control (CNC) milling, turning, fabrication and wire EDM. SmartCAM v2014 introduces extensive user interface updates that give the product a more modern look and feel while also making it easier to learn and use.  New panel task menus and customizable toolbars make it more convenient to access frequently used commands, and new configuration options allow the system to be tailored to make best use of screen workspace.
