AVEVA today announced that Paul Wurth, a leading engineering company in the Iron &Steel industry, has implemented AVEVA Everything3D (AVEVA E3D), AVEVA’s next-generation plant design software. By using this with other tools from the AVEVA Integrated Engineering & Design suite of solutions, Paul Wurth will benefit from enhanced capabilities, improved integration and seamless global work-sharing. “We piloted an alternative solution for 18 months, but as projects grow ever larger and become technically more challenging, it could not offer us the scalability of AVEVA E3D,”said Nicolas Leclaire, Head of Engineering applications, Paul Wurth. “In addition, we need a wide range of design and engineering tools that integrate seamlessly and enable projects to be worked on across multiple sites. AVEVA Everything3D will save us time and cost across the whole design process by eliminating unnecessary rework, both in the design office and in construction, keeping us competitive in an ever-changing environment,” said Georges Schreiner,

Bentley Systems, Incorporated, today announced that American Electric Power (AEP), one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, has chosen to enhance its electric substation design practices with Bentley Substation. By taking advantage of Bentley Substation’s integrated set of capabilities combining intuitive 3D modeling, electrical design functionality, and automatic bills of materials and report generation, AEP will gain from B/IM, Bentley’s advancement of the reach and benefits of “BIM” – for better-performing assets through increased depth of information modeling, and better-performing projects through increased breadth of information mobility. As a result, AEP anticipates faster design cycles and improved collaboration across physical and electrical design disciplines. AEP selected Bentley Substation based on a careful review of commercially available alternatives, the productivity benefits demonstrated at other utilities, and the estimated improvement the software would make in its own design processes. AEP is making Bentley Substation available to the more than 100 staff members in its transmission and engineering organization and plans

Granta Design today announced the latest advances to support both simulation and materials information management in engineering enterprises working with composites and advanced materials. Central to this is the idea of “bridging the gap” between design or test data and the input data required by the finite element community, as well as for Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME). At next week’s JEC Europe (Paris, March 11-13), Granta will be demonstrating the 2014 release of the Composites Design Data Module, providing traceable design data from the AGATE and NCAMP global aerospace projects. This material property data compilation covers the constituents, intermediates, and processing steps used to generate over 600 laminates, including design data tested in up to four standard conditions. It has applications across research, design, testing, and simulation. Discussions on Granta’s booth (F74 in Hall 7.3) will also draw on the outcomes of the recent Material Data Management Consortium (MDMC) meeting, hosted by Northrop Grumman in January.
