Do any of the following statements sound familiar?
  • Realtime data collection from the application of products is common, leading to vast amounts of usage data that contains usage patterns and insights to problems and desires
  • While IoT measurements may identify application improvements in deployed products, how can these enhancements be validated without substantial prototype investments before mass production?
  • How can companies benefit from this mountain of data to improve products without compromising safety?

At CIMdata, we discuss, research, and present trends in the application of computer-based product development, manufacturing, and service. Product complexities are increasing as they become more computer controlled, with some emerging automation. Digital engineering can assist operational feedback as it has done for faster, higher quality product development and manufacturing. PLM and digital twins can help manage the safety-critical elements of a product when combined with real-time data analytics. Use of the Digital Twin after mass production has not been discussed as much as it should be. In 2021, we presented the idea; here in 2022, we continue the discussion, especially around assuring safety.

The historic validation processes driven by manufacturing robust, durable products are being augmented, even expanded, by the inclusion and expansion of capabilities that change after the product is in the customer’s possession. Product complexity is proportionally increasing with more embedded electronics and application software. New use cases may be discovered after mass production and product companies will need to take advantage of their products connectedness—being able to inexpensively upgrade a product, to improve the product’s safe operation. Assuring safety of a product after it is mass produced requires new strategies for continuous validation. Managing the risks within field upgrades can be improved with the continuous application of PLM, digital twins, and real-time data analytics using rigorous processes.

What will I learn?
  • You will learn how and why CIMdata’s PLM definition covers the complete lifecycle, including operations.
  • You will understand more about PLM market growth in electronics design, modeling, simulation, and foundry certification.
  • You will understand how an operational digital twin can put data in context, which in turn makes validation manageable.
  • You will learn how PLM supports conformance to standards, such as those for Functional Safety (ISO-26262), SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Function), Cybersecurity (ISO-21434), as well as the classic APQP (aka IATF – 16949), thus improving product development practices.
  • You will learn why organizations need to change as products become services – PLM will ease this evolution.
Who should attend?
  • Quality managers, PLM leaders, data scientists, product and tool applications developers, and validation leaders and their management that feel the need to understand how PLM will help improve product safety.
  • Individuals who have a strong need to assure product safety.
  • Solution providers looking for a framework to help product developers manage the complete lifecycle.

During the webinar you’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
