Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) has signed a new agreement with OpenSpace, the global leader in 360° reality capture, to expand its usage of AI-powered reality capture across the UK.
With OpenSpace, MMB can operate more efficiently and with less risk. The reality capture and AI-powered technology stitches images together and pins them to a site plan or BIM model. The result is a full visual record of the construction site to reference at every phase of the project, and to refer back to if any legal, safety, or financial questions arise.
MMB delivers full design and construction civil engineering services along with mechanical and electrical expertise on a variety of infrastructure projects, largely in the water sector in England and Wales. After running several pilot projects and thoroughly evaluating different vendors, MMB selected OpenSpace as their official partner for 360° reality capture. The ease of use and the resulting quick adoption of the new technology by the site teams was a key factor during the evaluation process. With more comprehensive visual documentation of their projects, all stakeholders have complete visibility on the progress of sites which are often remote and hard to access. MMB is also leveraging Field Notes in OpenSpace along with the native Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) integration to enable better cross-team coordination, remote safety and issue monitoring, and streamlined subcontractor management. With the ability to align their BIM model with the 360° photos in OpenSpace, their teams also plan to increase BIM adoption in the field and spot discrepancies or potential risks earlier.
Jon Walker, Head of Digital Delivery at MMB, comments, “We’ve seen fantastic adoption of OpenSpace during the initial pilot phase. Our project teams have found the solution really easy to use and have immediately seen value across different use cases. Whether that’s for collecting detailed site conditions before construction starts, reducing the need to create separate project diaries, or taking captures for use in buildability reviews to ensure all the constraints are fully understood. As we see significant growth in our business over the next five years it’s great to build on our partnership with OpenSpace and deploy 360° reality capture across all our projects to deliver more value for us and our clients.”
OpenSpace Account Executive Lewis Campbell comments, “It’s great to see how quickly both the MMB site teams as well as the colleagues in the office have adopted OpenSpace in their day-to-day workflows. OpenSpace has already had a huge impact by providing remote progress tracking capabilities, especially for restricted sites like those the MMB team is working on. It’s been a pleasure to see MMB leverage innovative technologies and solutions to drive efficiency and sustainability and we look forward to working with their teams to roll out OpenSpace across their key projects in the UK.”
