The international management consultancy CIMdata has recently highlighted the strategic potential of CONTACT Fourier AI for the digital thread. In its latest technical analysis, the experts now emphasize the advantages of AI that is deeply integrated into engineering workflows over standalone tools for successful AI initiatives.
Many AI initiatives in the manufacturing industry fail because AI systems are frequently operated outside existing PLM processes and are not integrated into engineering workflows. This results in redundant information sources, gaps in traceability and access controls, and significant risks in terms of quality, compliance, and intellectual property protection. According to CIMdata, companies should therefore integrate AI across the entire product lifecycle, anchored in product structures, configurations, and change histories.
Fourier AI as a native AI layer in CONTACT Elements
Fourier AI is deeply integrated into CONTACT Elements as an intelligent layer delivering AI capabilities across all PLM modules. This enables the analysis of dependencies between engineering changes, requirements, product structure, test management, and manufacturing domains across all PLM applications. Users interact with the assistant like an experienced digital colleague who understands product data, design history, and organizational contexts, thereby effectively complementing human expertise. An orchestrator automatically selects the best-fit model for each task – whether from third-party providers, open source models, or in-house development.
Reliable results through structured data retrieval
Fourier AI converts lifecycle data into embeddings and stores them in a vector database. This enables semantic search with precise, context-aware answers based on authorized product information. Fourier AI protects sensitive product data via metadata filtering and role-based access control within the Elements platform across the entire AI stack. Additional company sources, such as intranets or wikis, can be connected as supplementary inputs. Interaction with Fourier is directly integrated into the CONTACT Elements user interface, ensuring a seamless work experience without context switches or media breaks.
Data sovereignty and IP protection by design
All processed data remains within the respective customer instances and is protected by role-based access control. The Fourier Cloud is operated on AWS in compliance with the GDPR and meets the requirements of the EU AI Act. Information processed by AI models is neither stored nor reused for other customers or purposes, ensuring complete data sovereignty.
Highlighting its ability to “embed AI into governed lifecycle workflows, support federated architectures, and protect sensitive product data,” CIMdata recommends that manufacturers evaluate Fourier AI.
