Movomech, one of the world’s leaders in the area of lifting technology and material handling, chooses RuleDesigner Configurator to configure rail systems and to automate the entire sales information process.
The main scope of the company was to replace an old text-based system used to create product configuration, which was difficult to update and no longer suitable for supporting the company innovation process.
A custom-designed track system has a variety of properties to be defined, ranging from different types of rails and profiles, suspensions and lifters. Several choices must be made to develop a device that meets the customer's requirements.
RuleDesigner Configurator guides the user all along the product configuration process: by entering the rail system load, a list of options are shown to the user in order to sort it out the proper product configuration options. The system retrieves the information from Inventor, the 3D CAD system in use at Movomech, and generates the rail system 3D model. When the configuration is finished, the product bill of material is automatically generated and saved in the database.
The integration with the ERP was crucial as well. As a matter of fact, RuleDesigner Configruator was set up to generate sales offer importing prices from the ERP.
Then, once the customer accepts the offer, the configuration system automatically send the information to the warehouse where the components are stocked. At this point, the selected components are picked-up and delivered to the customer.
By the way, the company had a greater need. The information sharing workflow was slow and not efficient, too: time was wasted to send enquiries to the design department, waiting for responses, etc.
Salesmen all over the world are now able to provide customers with the right configuration of the rail system together with 3D models and quotations. “By automating the sales workflow with a configurator, the customer obtains a sales proposal and the product 3D model in real time. We’ve cut unnecessary steps and improved the sales work”, says Göran Nilsson, project manager at Movomech AB.
The configuration service offered by Movomech is available on the company website, in the EConfig section. Users can access to such a service by logging in with their account details and they are guided throughout the different steps of the configuration process till the generation of the quotation.
“The idea was to provide a simple and intuitive user experience”, says Karin Domeij, who was responsible for managing communication and the configruator UI.
A new way of working has been set up in the company. “Now the information workflow is totally automated. Salesmen do not have the need to involve the engineering department but can generate quotes in real time while at the customer site. Also, we have reduced working time by 85% and maximized the quality of services ensuring accurate and prompt generation of quotations”.
In conclusion, RuleDesigner Configurator gave the possibility to Movomech to model the company processes autonomously, according to their needs, and gain efficiency along the sales processes offering an added-value service both to salesmen and users.
