Fujitsu Ireland – 1st Company in Ireland to achieve the Business Working Responsibly Mark in 2015

Fujitsu Ireland has become the first company in Ireland in 2015 to achieve the Business Working Responsibly Mark. The Mark, which certifies excellence in responsible and sustainable business practices across company operations, is operated by Business in the Community Ireland and is audited by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).

The organization achieved the Mark for excellence across several areas including:

  • Employee Communication and Consultation
  • Diversity and Equality
  • Environmental Management and Staff Awareness
  • Employee Participation in the community

Fujitsu Ireland is only the 17th company in Ireland to achieve the standard which examines areas such as sustainability, customer relations, supply chain management, workplace, community and environment.

Tina Roche, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland, the organisation responsible for the development of the Mark congratulated Fujitsu Ireland saying, “It is not easy for a company to achieve the Mark as it really does push them to demonstrate excellence in responsible and sustainable business practices. Only companies who have truly embedded these practices into their business have a chance of getting the Mark so it is a real testament to Fujitsu Ireland staff as well as the leadership of the company that they are taking sustainability seriously”.

Cathleen Doohan, Director of People and CSR, Fujitsu Ireland said;
“This is an important milestone for us as an organisation and all our employees, client and community partners. The comprehensive assessment process involved in achieving the Mark enabled us to analyse every area of our business, identifying those that needed to be improved as well as those existing strengths that we could build upon. The rigorous standards of the Mark award will ensure that we continue to maintain a standard of excellence across all areas of our strategic and day-to-day operations to deliver on our responsibility to internal and external stakeholders. Achieving the Business Working Responsibly Mark is a real testament to the commitment every employee has shown to our CSR Programme.”

To achieve the Mark, Fujitsu Ireland had to initially complete a comprehensive online questionnaire with over 290 questions analysing operations on over 27 different indicators. A one day audit was then conducted by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). The Mark is achieved by successfully passing both assessments.

Increasingly companies are using the Mark to showcase their responsible business credentials to customers, employees, local communities as well as investors. In addition, for multi-nationals based in Ireland, the Mark has proved invaluable in demonstrating best in class practices of Irish operations to global headquarters. The Mark also provides a strategic management framework for corporate responsibility or sustainability that drives internal collaboration and informs future planning.

The Business Working Responsibly Mark has been over four years in the making and follows trends for global standards of a similar nature. It is one of the first in Europe to be third party verified and audited.
