Siemens to Acquire Polarion Software, Expanding Support for Growing ALM Market

Siemens has entered into an agreement to acquire Polarion Software, developer of the first browser-based application lifecycle management (ALM) enterprise solution. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of 2016. Terms of the acquisition will not be disclosed.

Software is an integral part of product development across all industries and ALM enables manufacturers to continuously integrate, verify and validate the growing software content they build into their products. Polarion is a leader in the ALM market, leveraging an open architecture, exhibiting state-of-art source code management as well as supporting the needs of open source development.

As one of the world's leading developers of product lifecycle management (PLM) software, Siemens will add the Polarion offerings to its Teamcenter® software, making ALM an integral part of the product development process. This acquisition will further enhance Siemens support for systems driven product development, a holistic development approach that combines systems engineering with an integrated product definition, in an open environment.

"Today's announcement is another step in Siemens' commitment to help our customers fully realize the benefits of digitalization," said Chuck Grindstaff, CEO and president of Siemens PLM Software. "By adding Polarion ALM solutions to our PLM portfolio, we are further strengthening our ability to help companies create smart, connected products. Polarion's advanced functions integrate software specification, development, testing and simulation further into our market leading systems-driven product development environment. We are delighted to welcome the Polarion team to our organization and to integrate their leading ALM offerings into our Smart Innovation Portfolio."

Polarion is a leader in the ALM market with major customers in all core PLM industries as well as customers in adjacent high growth industries.

"Our two companies have enjoyed a successful relationship over the past two years and we have plans for a successful joint market strategy. This acquisition now offers us an opportunity to move further and faster towards the delivery of high value PLM/ALM solutions to our customers," says Frank Schroeder, CEO, Polarion Software. "Siemens clearly recognizes the value we bring to PLM, and the critical component of ALM within their digitalization strategy. We view this as a great benefit for our customers and we welcome the expanded opportunities that will result from being a part of Siemens."
