This educational webinar will consider the issues and the solutions that are being developed.
ANN ARBOR, Michigan, 16 July 2018—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “Topology Optimization Changing the Face of CAD.” The webinar will take place on Thursday, August 9 2018, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) and will last for one hour.
Generative design is a process wherein the shape and composition of a product is determined by using physics-based simulation and other analysis methods that consider performance requirements and optimize objectives such as minimum cost and weight. Topology Optimization is the most familiar generative design process and its popularity is being driven by improvements in 3D printing. Such design approaches, however, challenge the traditional product development process in that many downstream tools do not understand the geometric output of topology optimization algorithms. This webinar will help attendees:
- To gain an understanding of the workflow for generative design processes.
- To appreciate topology and the inputs and outputs of topology optimization.
- To learn about the four industry approaches for integrating topology optimization with CAD geometry.
- To articulate the pros and cons of each approach and their impact on a company’s design process.
- To better understand how generative design techniques impact CAD usage.
According to Dr. Ken Versprille a CIMdata Executive Consultant and the host for this webinar, “Given today’s rapidly advancing generative design and additive manufacturing technology, a company must understand the impacts that the new workflow will have on their current design processes.”
Dr. Versprille has over 40 years of experience in the application of computer-based solutions for engineering and manufacturing. His research spans geometric design, design collaboration and automation, PLM standards and openness, and the integration of CAD across PLM applications. Dr. Versprille is recognized for publishing the first description of NURBS, the mathematical curve-and-surface formulation, now an international standard in CAD and Computer Graphics and in 2005 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award by The CAD Society.
This webinar will be of interest product planners and managers; product portfolio managers, CAD and CAE team leaders and team members; designers; product managers; and anyone else who wants to learn how generative design and topology optimization is impacting traditional CAD modeling.
During the webinar attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed. To find out more, visit https://www.cimdata.com/en/education/educational-webinars/webinar-topology-optimization-changing-the-face-of-cad.
