CIMdata to Host Free Webinar on Securing the Additive Manufacturing Digital Thread

This educational webinar will expose the potential risks and propose pragmatic steps to mitigate, and potentially prevent, threats of cyberattacks.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, 2 October 2018—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “Securing the Additive Manufacturing Digital Thread.” The webinar will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. (EST) and will last for one hour.

The highest number of incidents of cyberattacks occur in the manufacturing industry. Attacks like malware, trojans, viruses, worms or bots are often introduced through the ubiquitous email, the most common method of sharing data. Additive Manufacturing (AM) or 3D Printing is all digital. An AM file contains topology, process definition, and a material recipe. This all-digital information-rich file can be an easy target for industrial espionage. An AM file may be immediately replicated and printed infinite times unless proper security measures are put in place. In this webinar CIMdata will expose the potential risks and propose pragmatic steps to mitigate, and potentially prevent, threats of cyberattacks.

This webinar will help attendees:

  • Gain a better understanding of AM Digital Thread security risks.
  • Understand more about the AM design-manufacturing process.
  • Learn what questions to ask about AM security within your company.
  • Become aware of the AM security solutions that are available.
  • Understand how to reduce risk of engineering intellectual property (IP) loss.

According to James White, CIMdata’s Director for Additive Manufacturing Strategy and the host for this webinar, “CIMdata is concerned to find that even in leading companies who make production quality, for end-use AM parts, there are often poor security measures in place. Commonly AM files containing topology, manufacturing process parameters, and a material recipe, are being distributed using email or perhaps a public cloud repository. Given the threat of cyberattacks in the manufacturing industry and the known leakage of counterfeit parts into the supply chain, CIMdata believes that it’s imperative for AM practitioners to act before something bad happens. This webinar doesn’t cover all risk cases or solutions, but is designed to identify common problem areas plus easy to implement solutions throughout the AM Digital Thread.”

Mr. White has over 30 years of PLM, Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing, and general manufacturing industry experience. He has held roles in Fortune 1000 software and consulting companies where he was responsible for Product Management, Sales Management, Strategic Alliances, Major Account Management, and Business Development. He has extensive experience in market development, new product introduction, and client management across various geographies. His extensive industry experience includes Hi-Tech, Medical Device, Software, and Heavy Industrial, delivering new disruptive products, systems, and solutions. His passion for AM/3D Printing comes from a belief that customers need guidance to fully take advantage of recent advances in AM materials, machines, and design tools.

The webinar will be useful to VP’s of engineering, VP’s of manufacturing, VP’s of strategy, product planners and managers, PLM team leaders, Additive Manufacturing (AM) specialists, IT cybersecurity specialists, IT leadership, legal and compliance, engineering designers, procurement specialists, PLM team leaders, PLM team members, and anyone interested in learning more about this topic.

During the webinar attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed. To find out more, visit: https://www.cimdata.com/en/education/educational-webinars/webinar-securing-the-additive-manufacturing-digital-thread.
