General Motors’ PLM/ALM Leader joins CIMdata as an Executive Consultant.
ANN ARBOR, Michigan, 23 July 2019—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) strategic management consulting and research firm, announces that General Motors’ (GM) veteran, Craig A. Brown has joined the firm as an Executive Consultant.
Mr. Brown has 40 years of experience in systems engineering, both in the automotive and aerospace industries and comes to CIMdata after recently retiring from GM as their PLM Leader, a position he held since September 2012.

Over his 30-year journey at GM, Mr. Brown was responsible for PLM Portfolio Planning and held assignments in embedded software, systems engineering, CAE Methods, and process improvement. He led engineering and IT teams developing tools to improve product and manufacturing engineering. These teams received patents, engineering awards, and records of invention, including using OnStar® to monitor and report vehicle diagnostics. Prior to joining GM, he spent 12 years in the Aerospace/Defense industry focused on control systems and tools to help develop systems for guidance, navigation and control, and signal processing systems. He was a member of the team that invented VHDL and led one of the first commercial tool applications. Mr. Brown has a talent for organizing across industry sectors to distill common requirements which can help streamline tools and standards development.
Mr. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He is a "Boss" Kettering Award recipient, GM’s highest engineering recognition, and earned a DFSS Black Belt certification. He has been the invited keynote speaker at PLM/ALM/CAE conferences worldwide. Mr. Brown’s primary research interest is the acquisition of knowledge applied across product portfolios, which is key to the next wave of PLM integrated with ALM.
