Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group Holds Annual Planning Meeting

The CIMdata administered Group provides research and guidance on the top PLM issues impacting aircraft manufacturers, major defense OEMs, and Tier 1 suppliers.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, USA 25 April 2023—Representatives from seven major aerospace and defense companies recently held their annual meeting in Cincinnati, OH, USA, to discuss and review the status and findings of the Aerospace & Defense (A&D) PLM Action Group’s working teams and to set priorities for the Group’s 10th business year. General Electric Aerospace hosted this year’s meeting at its corporate learning center.

Members attended the meeting in person and virtually. The A&D PLM Action Group, which CIMdata administers, is an industry-specific PLM advocacy group whose mission is to:

  • Set the direction for the aerospace & defense industry on PLM-related topics that matter to members.
  • Promote common industry PLM processes and practices.
  • Define requirements for common interest PLM-related capabilities.
  • Communicate with a unified voice to PLM solution providers.
  • Sponsor collaborative PLM research on member-prioritized industry and technology topics.

The Group sponsors collaborative research on a diverse set of prioritized industry and technology topics, including Model-Based Definition; Multiple View Bill of Materials; PLM Technology Obsolescence Management; Global Collaboration; Model-Based Systems Engineering; and Digital Twin/Digital Thread. As an outcome of these investments, the Group has developed a series of direction statements and position papers available for downloading from its website at www.ad-pag.com.

During the meeting, A&D PLM Action Group representatives defined plans for working with various stakeholders in the global PLM ecosystem and, in collaboration with several leading PLM solution providers, reviewed progress on the Group’s prioritized industry and technology topics.

James Roche, CIMdata A&D Practice Director, stated, “Since its founding in February 2014, the Group’s mission has changed little, but the members’ goals have matured and evolved year over year. Strategic engagement with PLM solution providers as colleagues on a common journey has always been core to the Groups operating model. The Group’s leadership recently decided to expand its reach into the solution provider community and engage in collaborative research and dialogue to gain an understanding of needs and opportunities within the industry on the topic of digital thread. For this research effort, CIMdata and the A&D PLM Action Group partnered with Aras, Eurostep, Jama Software, PTC, and Siemens Digital Industries Software. During their annual meeting the A&D PLM Action Group leadership met individually with each of the co-sponsors to discuss the impact of the research findings and align on solutions strategy and roadmap.”

Consistent with the Group’s mission to engage proactively within the PLM ecosystem and advocate for common direction and positions, there will be reports on several of the Group’s projects at the PLM Road Map & PDT North America 2023 conference in Washington D.C. on 3rd & 4th of May 2023.
