Collaboration, Integration, and Sustainability: Keys to Maximizing the Value of PLM

A CIMdata PLM Enterprise Value & Integration and Social Product Development & Collaboration Knowledge Council Workshop

October 3, 2014 | The Inn at St. John's, Plymouth (Detroit), MI

Who Should Attend? Why Attend? View Agenda Cost & Venue

Sponsored jointly by the PLM Enterprise Value & Integration (PEVI) and the Social Product Development & Collaboration (SPD&C) Knowledge Councils CIMdata’s Collaboration, Integration, and Sustainability: Keys to Maximizing the Value of PLM Workshop is a must-attend event for industrial organizations and solution providers involved with innovation, new product development, ensuring PLM and Social technology solutions meet business expectations, and product definition data flows smoothly throughout the extended enterprise. It provides independent education and a collaborative networking environment where ideas, trends, experiences, and relationships critical to these topics germinate and take root.

This workshop will focus on three critical areas:

  1. Collaborative Innovation and Social Product Development: Innovation and new product development, which are essential to the health and growth of any business, are inherently social processes, requiring collaboration through the lifecycle of a product, starting with idea generation through design, build, market delivery, and beyond. Given trends around social, mobile, and cloud, many companies are reinventing the way they collaborate internally and externally to innovate and to develop products with demonstrated advantages in quality, time-to-market, and cost.
  2. Integration: A PLM solution consists of the technology and business processes required to manage the lifecycle of the product definition. In most enterprises the data describing product is stored in many different repositories and is maintained using many different applications. In order to make effective and efficient business decisions the data must be accessible with proper controls, independent of where it is stored to support decision making processes. In addition, the data must be easy to access and presented in a form usable and maintainable to people and electronic processes.
  3. PLM Investment Sustainability: A sustainable PLM solution is one that can support current and future business requirements without needing to be “ripped and replaced.” As part of the PEVI Knowledge Council, CIMdata has identified 17 elements that describe the sustainability of a PLM solution and have developed a model to enable companies to assess the sustainability of their current PLM solution, as well as potential changes to the solution. Using a straightforward Internet- based survey tool, companies can quickly gain an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their PLM solution and knowledge about how to improve the sustainability.

You Will Learn About:

  • The key aspects to consider when starting the journey to transform your business with collaborative innovation and social technologies
  • The Social Product Development & Collaboration Knowledge Council’s research agenda and a proposed collaboration “maturity” model
  • How to leverage horizontal, collaborative networks internally and externally for strategic advantage
  • The latest results and insights from CIMdata’s PLM Investment Sustainability research project
  • How an automotive OEM planned and executed an enterprise-wide CAD and PLM solution migration
  • How to leverage social technology for collaborative ideation

Agenda Outline

A comprehensive agenda is planned to cover the following topics:

  • A keynote from Chrysler “Chrysler's PLM Journey Supporting People, Process, and Technology” which will highlight how integration and collaboration technology were used to successfully migrate to a new authoring and data management environment
  • An introduction to CIMdata’s PLM Enterprise Value & Integration and Social Product Development & Collaboration Knowledge Councils
  • CIMdata’s research activities in PLM Investment Sustainability; recent findings; and plans for 2014 and beyond
  • CIMdata’s research activities in Social Product Development & Collaboration and plans for 2014 and beyond
  • A presentation from a Fortune 500 company on the “Power of Collaborative Ideation”
  • A discussion of strategies, approaches, and tools for successful social innovation and product development
  • How companies can use CIMdata’s Internet-based survey tool to gain an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their PLM solution and knowledge about how to improve its sustainability

What to Expect If You Attend

Participants in CIMdata’s joint PLM Enterprise Value & Integration and Social Product Development & Collaboration Knowledge Council workshop should expect to gain a solid understanding of current technologies and the work that is being undertaken in the areas of collaboration, integration, and the sustainability of PLM value to the enterprise. At this workshop you will experience a lively forum in which to discuss the real issues. You will also have the opportunity to have your voice heard and make your opinion count. This event will also provide the opportunity to network with other professionals, CIMdata’s subject matter experts, and members of the CIMdata PLM Enterprise Value & Integration and Social Product Development & Collaboration Knowledge Councils. There will be plenty of time for open (and private) discussions.
