A simple analogy would be building a house without a foundation. Now, let’s project out to 2030. Suppose you recharge your electric vehicle (EV) with electricity from the existing grid. iStock-1367272988Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions continue to rise, causing the earth’s surface to warm 1.1°C beyond preindustrial levels. This is tracked by NASA satellites, which show the earth’s surface getting warmer as heat-trapping GHGs cause the stratosphere to cool. This has not happened for millions of years and is causing catastrophic consequences in the form of many harsher and more frequent climate change disasters. Net-zero means “cutting greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible, with any remaining emissions re-absorbed from the atmosphere.” https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/net-zero-coalition.
