CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces that Mary Beth Privitera, Director for the Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Cincinnati, will make a presentation at CIMdata’s Innovation Engagement & Governance workshop. This one-day workshop will take place on May 25 at The Biltmore Hotel & Suites in Santa Clara, California.
Designing medical devices with a focus on human factors is critical to addressing the needs of medical professionals in their work environment. In this presentation, Mary Beth Privitera will share how the use of observational research, otherwise known as contextual inquiry, is leading to more innovative solutions for medical professionals. She will draw on case studies and focused research to demonstrate the differences in design approach, current opinions found in industry, best practices, and the practical challenges of involving users in the front end of the design process.
Mary Beth Privitera has worked in the medical device industry since 1988 and is widely known as an expert in the application of human factors in medical product design. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati and works collaboratively between the Colleges of Medicine, Engineering, and Design. Currently, she is the Director of the Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Cincinnati. This program collaborates with the medical device industry in order to conduct early stage contextual inquiry, device optimization, and usability testing, with a focus on translating research efforts into viable product development opportunities. She has been published in the area of medical device development and most recently authored a book titled “Contextual Inquiry for Medical Device Design.”
