At the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo in Anaheim, CA, CGTech Composites Product Specialist Charles Anderton will be giving a presentation on how to use software to assist in the decision of an automated layup methodology.
“Automated composite manufacturing is an additive process to build a near-net-shape ‘fiber reinforced’ part on a mold using a CNC machine. This presentation will explore the advantages, disadvantages, and challenges of automated fiber placement (AFP), automated tape layup (ATL), and hybrid layup strategies for a given set of part designs,” said Charles Anderton, CGTech’s Composites Product Specialist. “Machine independent software packages offer the ability to unify programming and simulation efforts of both new and existing programs for a variety of AFP, ATL, and hybrid machines.”
Throughout the show, in booth C18, CGTech will be demonstrating VERICUT Composite Applications: VERICUT Composite Paths for Engineering (VCPe), VERICUT Composite Programming (VCP), and VERICUT Composite Simulation (VCS). Visitors to CGTech’s booth will also have the opportunity to receive a thorough overview of the steps needed to get from a CAD designed composite part to CNC programs that drive an Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) or Automated Tape Laying (ATL) machine. There will be information on new projects that highlight the implementation and use of machine independent off-line NC programming software for AFP and ATL machines, such as the work being done at NASA's Langley Research Center using a 16-tow Electroimpact automated fiber placement machine. Current customer projects to be highlighted include extensive use of robots, lasers, probing, and ultrasonic knives.
CGTech will also be exhibiting its latest version of VERICUT software. VERICUT is CNC machine simulation, verification and optimization software that enables users to eliminate the process of manually proving-out NC programs. VERICUT simulates all types of CNC machining, including drilling and trimming of composite parts, water jet, riveting, robotics, mill/turn and parallel kinematics. VERICUT runs standalone, but can also be integrated with leading CAM systems.
