CIMdata to Host a Free Webinar on the Collaborative Exchange of Product Data

This webinar will explore the need to enable frictionless operation between OEMs, their suppliers, and partners.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, September 17, 2019—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “A Call for Collaboration Revolution.” The webinar will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) and will last for one hour.

The collaborative exchange of product data among OEMs, suppliers, and other partners can best be described as tedious. Each company has different PLM solutions, versions, and customizations, and also different CAD systems and versions. Exchanging data between companies requires bi-directional agreements of exchange. For example, on how to handle errors and the expansion of the exchange process to how to protect Intellectual Property (IP).

No single standard for either CAD or product data exchange exists. Each company has to agree on a CAD and proprietary product data format or a neutral format, naming and revision schemes, configuration control, data exchange mechanisms, and how to provide synchronization of the data between the companies. This leads to lost time and slowed deliverables as each company works to establish the basis for exchange. Each company has its own exchange requirements; therefore, exchanging data requires independent and exclusive processes, each unique and complicated, in an effort to support the long-term future of collaboration.

This webinar will help attendees:

  • Understand how the cloud can help lessen the IT burden in collaboration.
  • Learn how advances in data standards can reduce the burden on data format conversions.
  • Understand how the adoption of model-based definition (MBD) approaches can simplify data sharing.
  • Find out if cloud-based visualization can help protect IP.

According to Dr. Ken Versprille, a CIMdata executive consultant, and the host for this webinar, “CIMdata’s consulting shows renewed interest from industrial clients in advancing collaboration. We see a number of leaders in multiple industry verticals joining together to propose visionary architectures for improving collaboration for the benefit of all. This webinar will explore the most common collaboration issues voiced.”

Dr. Versprille has over 40 years of experience in the application of computer-based solutions for engineering and manufacturing. His research spans geometric design, design collaboration and automation, PLM standards and openness, and the integration of CAD across PLM applications. Dr. Versprille is recognized for publishing the first description of NURBS, the mathematical curve-and-surface formulation, now an international standard in CAD and Computer Graphics. In 2005 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The CAD Society.

This webinar will be useful to product planners and managers, PLM team leaders, PLM team members, PLM users, manufacturing engineers, product managers, IT leaders, solution providers, and anyone who wants to learn more about PLM and data collaboration.

During the webinar attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
